UC needs this. At home, against a team they should beat. If Mick loses this game, look for fans to become more vocal in their dissatisfaction.

The Providence offense entered the week ranked ninth nationally and fourth in the Big East with an average of 82.9 points per game. The flip side is that Providence is last in the Big East in points allowed at 77.8 per game.

Providence sophomore forward Jamine Peterson has had 11 double-doubles this season, including 23 points and 14 rebounds against Connecticut. Peterson averages 17.9 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.

"They can score, and they'll shoot it quicker than most teams we play," Cronin said. "They spread you out a lot. They also play a matchup zone, which nobody else really plays in our conference."

CINCINNATI (13-7, 4-4 Big East): The Bearcats are once again in the thick of the chase for an NCAA bid. They fell short the last two seasons but are in solid shape to finish in the top half of the Big East this season…Non-league wins over Vanderbilt and Maryland look good now…Road losses to Seton Hall and St. John’s are only dark marks on resume…Coming off a 68-60 loss at Louisville…Stephenson, the most highly touted recruit from New York in the last five years, is having a solid season. He’s only shooting 18 percent from the 3-point line. Vaughn is the only real 3-point threat at 37 percent…Addition of Thomas to go along with Gates has beefed up Cincy’s frontcourt.

PROVIDENCE (12-8, 4-4 Big East): The Friars return to a familiar place when they hit the road Saturday for the first of a two-game road trip. PC owns a 4-1 all-time mark against Cincinnati and has won two of three in the Queen City, including an 87-79 victory last season…PC is 4-4 on the road with conference wins at St. John’s and DePaul. The Friars are at Syracuse on Tuesday…Friars hoping to build on their 81-66 victory over No. 19 Connecticut. PC hopes to keep offense strong against Bearcats. PC has scored 80 or more points eight times and 100 or more three times…PC coaches will wear sneakers Saturday night to support Coaches vs. Cancer.

I guess Cash finally 'gets it'.
He had an outstanding game tonite. His drives to the basket actually resulted in points or an assist to a teammate. He also was deadly from outside. Wilks had some very nice points inside as well (see, I knew he could slash to the basket).
Defense was much better in the 2nd half, but they really need to learn how to close out games.

UC wins 92-88.

Bishop 16
Vaughn 12
Gates 7
Wright 24
Wilks 10
Parker 6
Born Ready 12

Decent job on TO's (espec in first half) and did not commit excessive fouls. Is this real improvement, or simply beating a team that we should at home?

Wright made nine of 11 shots, including three of four 3-pointers, and recorded five assists with no turnovers in 30 minutes.

"He’s got great quickness and he can shoot the basketball,” Cronin said. It’s just been a learning experience for him.”

Wright’s performance came on the heels of a 12-point outing against Louisville in a losing cause last Sunday.

The Bearcats beat Providence at their own game last night. Running the floor. Making 3’s. And basically playing the exact opposite style game that they usually play. I like it.

Don’t worry I’m not falling in love with it. I know they won’t run like that all the time but they sure did look comfortable doing it. As a matter of fact I think that style of play suites Cashmere Wright just fine. He flourished in the uptempo style and I think that’s what led to his monster performance last night. I also believe that benching a couple games ago flipped a switch in the kid. He sat out. Parker stepped up. He realized he needed to work harder. What a concept. Maybe Yancy Gates needs to it one out.

The quick pace was good for a couple other guys as well. Bishop and Wilks both seemed to take to it rather well. Wilks looked better tonight than any other conference game he’s played in to date. For the first time I felt like the Bearcats depth of Athletic players was an advantage. Providence just couldn’t keep up in the second half.

But then UC’s lack of fundamentals jumped out and slapped me back to reality. Is there another team in the country who plays this bad in the final minutes every game? If there is I haven’t seen them. If It wasn’tfor Parkers prayer of a free throw this game could have been tied up. Maybe someone could explain it to me. How is it that a team like Providence can be down by ten with a minute to go and think “we can still win this game”. UC’s free throw shooters looked like deer in the headlights. Argh!
