From IUB on Goldhelmet...

Son of Ohio State legacy & current Chicago Bears RB Coach Tim Spencer, (who I believe is one of the few Offensive coaches of the Bears not fired earlier this month) and teammate of recently offered recruiting Class of 2011 IL WR DaVaris Daniels, Evan already has offers from Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Nebraska, and is getting a lot of interest from Notre Dame and pOSU.

Junior talent Evan Spencer (Vernon Hills, Ill.) recently picked up scholarship offers from Notre Dame and Ohio State, ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com reports.

Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska have also offered the 6-foot, 178-pound prospect with Buckeye ties. Both his parents went to Ohio State and his father Tim played in the Horseshoe.

"I don't have any leader," Spencer stated. "When I was five and younger, I always dreamed of playing there [at Ohio State]. Now I'm extremely open minded. I'm not going to put them over anyone else because my dad went there and my parents went there. I'm not the type of person where they offer me and I'm committing right now. I'm definitely going to wait and look at all my options."

The city of Chicago is usually the place that college recruiters come looking for interior linemen, but the Windy City will produce plenty of athletes in the 2011 class, including Evan Spencer (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills).
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder is the son of former Ohio State running back and current Chicago Bears running backs coach Tim Spencer. He has nine scholarship offers under his belt.
"Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Cincinnati (have offered)," Spencer said. "I'm glad Ohio State offered but my dad told me he wants me to see what's out there. He really wants me to do my homework and find the school that's best for me. If that's Ohio State then great.

Made the trip to ND for junior day with teammate Davaris Daniels. Spencer liked the visit, but not as much as Daniels (who is now probably an Irish lean). If they intend to play together, getting Spencer to UC just became more difficult.

Per ISD his facebook update reads:

Quote:
"At Notre Dame and very impressed."

Will attend OSU's spring game instead of ND's. Irish still a player though, no word on UC.

@Chris_Pool 2011 WR Evan Spencer (Vernon HIlls, Ill./Vernon Hills) is telling me he doesn't have a leader but I get the feeling it's going to be OSU. about 2 hours ago

He'd be a good pickup for them. I would have liked to see him at UC, but it looked like one more offer that had almost zero chance of producing.

Receiver prospect Evan Spencer of Vernon Hills, Ill., told the Chicago Sun-Times that he is keeping an "open mind" during the recruiting process, even though his father, Tim, was an Ohio State star and later a Buckeyes assistant coach. He's now the running backs coach for the Chicago Bears. Evan has offers from OSU, Illinois, Notre Dame, Iowa, Purdue, Wisconsin and Nebraska, among others.

"When I was little, Ohio State was my dream school," Spencer told the paper after returning from a visit to Columbus last weekend. "'I lived in Columbus for 10 years. Once I got to Chicago, we were still big Ohio State fans. But now I'm neutral. My dad advised me to keep an open mind, not to let where he has been or where my mother (also an Ohio State graduate) has been make the decision for me."
Spencer has 4.43-second speed in the 40-yard dash and is considered one of the Chicago area's top 10 football recruits in the 2011 class.

Spencer plans to unofficially visit Illinios and maybe Nebraska before he verbally commits to the school "he has in mind" before the end of June.
