(Thanx to a poster from BCN who noticed the offer)

Just got off the phone with North running back D’Angelo Roberts, who is at Gainesville, Fla. today to (unofficially) visit Florida.

The big news is that Florida has told him it wants to run more of a pro-style offense during the post-Tim Tebow era.

Since that is what Roberts is looking for, he said Florida has gone from a nice thing to definitely in the running.

“I definitely like it down here,” Roberts said. “Whatever happens happens with whatever school I go to. But Florida is definitely in my interest.”

Roberts, who said the coaching staff’s speed put a “smile on my face,” said Florida wants him back in Gainesville for a camp. If he performs well at that camp, a scholarship offer could be coming.

The above Michigan St forum shows an offer from the Spartans, but no one else does that I see. Scout does show interest from MSU and Louisville.

Cincinnati offered North running back D’Angelo Roberts a scholarship today, the junior said moments ago.

The Bearcats are the fourth school to offer Roberts, joining Indiana, Western Kentucky and Ball State.

“I don’t know too much about the program, but I am going to go down there for a visit,” Roberts said. “… I know they just came from a BCS bowl game, so that’s definitely something to look forward to.”

From Nike Camp at OSU...

D'Angelo Roberts (5-10/175) of Bloomington, Ind. separated himself from the pack during the open field running drills. Confined to a tight space with a linebacker closing in on him, Roberts showed the burst to beat the angle outside and the quickness to cut back inside of his defender. Roberts was one of the few running backs to win two consecutive reps during the open field running drill.

Found on BCN...(thank you) :)

From The Bloomington Herald-Times blog (full story tomorrow):

As D’Angelo Roberts’ recruitment continues to gain momentum, the North running back continues to hold in high esteem the school that offered him his first scholarship.

Indiana remains in Roberts’ top three, the junior wrote in a text message Monday afternoon.

Roberts declined to name the other two schools.

Indiana offered Roberts on Oct. 13. He was the first junior that the Hoosiers extended a scholarship invitation to.

Since then, he has kept Indiana high on his list, even as schools with grander traditions became interested in the record-setting back.

Eight Big Ten schools (the lone exceptions being Ohio State, Northwestern and Illinois), Florida, Ball State, Western Michigan and Western Kentucky have all been on North’s campus in recent weeks.

Ohio State and Illinois have expressed interest in Roberts previously (he went on an unofficial visit to Champaign, Ill. last fall).

Roberts is expecting an offer soon from Penn State, but there has been no official report that the offer has been sent. Most of his offers have been from local programs, including Ball State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Indiana, and Western Kentucky. Purdue, Michigan State, and Iowa are also looking, and are in a similar position as Penn State. Roberts is a great running threat, amassing more than 2,600 yards last season; but he can also catch the ball, with 400 receiving yards out of the backfield.

Damn it! I know he's from Bloomington but I thought we could land this kid and he looks like he'd be a nice fit in our offense. We need RBs in the worst way. We NEED two RBs in this class and hopefully the staff is beating down doors. Very frustrating

Obviously if we can land Poteat I will forget all about losing Roberts. Heck, even a combination of Abernathy and Rawls would be fine with me.
