So who’s the next big recruit? Everything points to Bill Belton.

“He’ll be one of those big recruits. He’ll be in that type of water,’’ McBride said. “People will come from all over.

“The possibilities are endless, and he’s a great kid. He’s very unassuming, very humble. I’ve been around a long time. The great ones are real unassuming. They run around and practice like any other kid. But he is as good as I’ve been around.’’

A junior, Belton was an All-Group 3 selection last season as a wide receiver. This fall, he’s the starting quarterback and flourishing at the position.

“I’m very comfortable with the situation,’’ said Belton, who’s rushed for 10 touchdowns and thrown for nine more.

“It’s amazing. I just go out and perform. I play for my buddies on the team and I’m just having fun playing football. It feels great knowing that everybody looks at me to be a leader. That’s why I play football, to lead this team where it needs to go.’’

Said McBride: “Being a wide receiver, he understands all the routes. People will start chasing him but he’ll have his eyes up because he knows what the routes are. He finds guys and hits them.’’

Belton has impressed all season. Just ask Shawnee coach Tim Gushue.

After watching Belton rush for two scores and throw for another in a 48-42 win over his Renegades, Gushue said: “He’s a high school Michael Vick. It was a frustrating day for me, I was so impressed. He could take off the rest of the season, not play next year, and some college would still give him a scholarship. That’s how impressed I was.’’

McBride says colleges are looking at Belton to play at any number of positions. Some view him as a cornerback, while others like him more as an offensive threat as an inside slot receiver or maybe even a running back with a few more pounds added to his frame.

There are those that like the overall package, recruiting him as simply an athlete.

Penn State, Pitt and Rutgers are just three schools to have expressed early interest.

“It’s going to take a lot of hard work, dedication and staying focused. That should take me to the next level,’’ Belton said.

While Belton’s future looks extremely bright, there are more things to be concerned about in the present. Winslow Township (3-3) takes on No. 11 Timber Creek in an important Burlco/Olympic Liberty Division game on Friday night.

Expect the ball to be in Belton’s hands quite a bit.

“I learned a long time ago, from watching Glenn Howard and Tom Brown when they had Flipper Anderson and guys like that, when you have a player like that, it’s easy to defend him when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands,’’ McBride said. “We put the ball in his hands.

“He has energized this offense. The offense is very formidable and they don’t feel as though they are out of any game. They can score a lot of points and Bill’s the trigger guy. He’s really a dual-threat. Bill can go from 80 yards away and score.’’

Info: Winslow Township HS, ATH Bill Belton is quickly becoming a top prospect. He currently holds nine offers and is possibly going to be receiving his tenth from West Virginia. He is a dynamic player who is talented enough to play at multiple positions. Belton has great speed that allows him to get to the corner and cut it up field in a hurry. He compares himself to another talented speedster, Minnesota Vikings receiver, Percy Harvin. Playing like Percy and idolizing Barry Sanders growing up, are two phenomenal athletes to mold himself after. Belton has talent and schools are taking notice. His dream school is Penn State but admits distance is not a factor in deciding a college. He has taken unofficial visits to Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland and Pitt. Belton says academics are one of the biggest factors in deciding which school to attend. Other things he is looking at are campus life, tradition and coaching stability. Belton currently has a 2.9 G.P.A. and plans on majoring in Sports Medicine. After college he hopes to play in the N.F.L. or use his degree to become an Athletic Trainer. For the immediate future, Belton just wants, “to play football for a major BCS school.” He is working hard to accomplish his dream of playing college football. His #1 goal is to be the top player in the country. He feels he can accomplish this goal by what he brings to the next level. According to Belton those aspects are “Everything from a great person to a great football player who can line up anywhere on the field.” Belton is anxious to get onto the field for his senior season. He is hoping to be able to accomplish his biggest goal for the year and that is leading his team to a championship. He has enjoyed his high school career so far and will always remember making the All-South Jersey Team. He credits a close person in his life Joe Shelton for being the most influential person in his life because he helped him through a lot of situation. Belton feels his skills are best suited for a spread-offense and would like to work on his straight-line speed.

From a member who pm'd me, Belton was just at UC watching practice. Source sounded like BCL.

Bill Belton, a four-star wide receiver from Atco, NJ., made a pair of Big East visits to Louisville and Cincinnati over the weekend and came away highly impressed with both programs. Belton is a priority Big East recruit and the Cardinals and Bearcats are definitely in the mix.

@jcshurburtt ATH Bill Belton (Atco, N.J./Winslow Township) says he's definitely going to visit Louisville and Cincinnati officially. about an hour ago

Since the beginning of his junior season Bill Belton has solidified himself as one of the top prospects in New Jersey’s Class of 2011, and the offers have been piling up.

Belton hasn’t wasted any time in hitting the recruiting process with a full head of steam. The 5-foot-9, 191-pound athlete from Atco (N.J.) Winslow Township has been learning all he can about the schools recruiting him—especially those that have offered.

The talented junior has been especially busy of late, visiting four schools over the past week or so, and doing all that travel on the weekends.

Belton was at Pittsburgh on Saturday, and he has also been to Louisville, Cincinnati and Rutgers within the past week. He spoke with Rivals.com about each one of those trips on Sunday.

“I went to Pitt’s spring game and it went great,” he said. “We woke up early that morning and went down to the football office. They took us on a tour of the facilities and showed us the campus. Then they showed us around town. They took us down on the field and we watched them warm up, and then they showed us the locker room. I got a chance to talk to coach (Dave) Wannstedt one-on-one and he met my parents. It was a great trip.

“I enjoyed Louisville, too. I went down with a teammate, Robert Mahan, and we both loved it down there. It’s a nice city and Charlie Strong is coming in there and trying to rebuild the program. It would be nice to be a part of that.

“Cincinnati’s campus is like it’s own town. Everything’s right there. The football stadium is right in the middle of campus. They’re doing great things at Cincinnati. I love the offense they run. It’s similar to Florida’s. They put five wide (receivers) out there. I think I’d fit into that well.

“Rutgers is a good school. It’s close to home. I went up there for a spring practice. They practice with a lot of intensity. The coaches work them hard and keep them moving forward.”

Belton doesn’t plan on slowing down any time soon. He will be attending spring games at Maryland and West Virginia very shortly. He said he has not picked up any new offers recently.

He went on to say that he will take all of his official visits before he makes his decision.

The word is out....

Per Jeremy Crabtree: Florida and Oregon have offered.

Hold the line, BJ!

He has trimmed his list to 10. They are West Virginia, South Carolina, Florida, Purdue, Oregon, Penn State, Cincinnati, Louisville, Maryland, and Pitt. He will trim the list to 5 in August and those 5 will get official visits from Belton.

The offensive star from southwest New Jersey is getting a lot of attention lately, but not as a quarterback, the position he played in high school. Belton is being eyed as either a slot receiver or a running back. He's open to both positions. Scout.com has him rated the No. 13 wide receiver for 2011, while being named to the ESPNU 150. As a junior, Belton accounted for approximately 3,400 yards of total offense and 26 touchdowns as a quarterback. He also played defensive back.

Belton's offers list is growing, even though he's been openly trimming schools at the same time. West Virginia, South Carolina, Florida, Purdue, Oregon, Penn State, Cincinnati, Louisville, Maryland, and Pittsburgh are on Belton's short list. But he holds offers from more than 20 schools overall, including Maryland, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Rutgers, South Florida, and Wisconsin. Honestly, I'm surprised Rutgers isn't on his short list, but there are a number of reasons any recruit picks or doesn't pick a school.

When it comes to Penn State... Making an early cut is better than not, so I'd have to say that Penn State is in decent shape with Belton. The Nittany Lions only recently offered him. Belton is a rare football talent, who's capable of playing Penn State's "slash" role. That multi-threat position was made famous by Derrick Williams, and is now occupied by Curtis Drake. I would venture to say that if Belton couldn't throw the ball well, Penn State wouldn't have much interest.

His commit to Pitt is over, with Wanny being pushed out.
Now looking at Penn St (they visited his HS), as well as UC.

If Butch could find a way to land Belton and Poteat... this class would become the best in UC history, on paper.

Belton can play corner or wide receiver and is a flat out baller for #PSU, #PennState, #NittanyLions

Sounds like he is all PSU. Better them than Pitt.
