Holds a large list of offers from UC, tOSU, Mich, MSU, ND, Pitt, UNC.

This 4 star would be a HUGE get for BJ.

Visited MSU and tOSU over the weekend. Both are looking solid right now.

Grant is probably heading to OSU. I can't think of the last recruit from Akron whom Ohio State really wanted and didn't get

Grant Adds Two More Offers
Posted by Bill Kurelic on Feb 05, 2010 at 08:24 am

Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary defensive back Doran Grant, one of the top five class of 2011 prospects in the Buckeye State, continues to add to his scholarship offer list.

On Thursday Grant added scholarship offers from Wisconsin and West Virginia. His list already included Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, Iowa, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Illinois, Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Grant’s father Ted Jones was an All-Big Ten wide receiver at Michigan State, and Grant has the Spartans and Buckeyes high on his list with Ohio State currently No. 1.

The 5-foot-11 and 175-pound Grant played boundry corner for the Irish this season as well as wide receiver. He also returned punts.

No chance Grant ends up anywhere other than Columbus. Akron is all Buckeye's, the only kids from Akron that Tressel doesn't get are those he doesn't want. Grant does not fall into the latter category

Miami is expected to offer soon.

Michigan will see him for their junior day, UC possibily.

It looks like more prestigious programs will be adding to that list, as he noted Miami (Fl.) and Alabama appear close to offering. One of those specifically has his attention.

“Miami (Fl.) jumps out. They were my childhood team, I grew up watching them.”

Out of the schools that have offered, some have stood out more so than others to him; OSU, MSU, Penn State and Georgia Tech. Ohio State and Michigan State still remain out in front of the pack though and for similar reasons.

“Basically the reason why is because of the relationship with coaches and they’re just good people to be around.”

Doran has built a strong relationship with the Ohio State coaching staff and talks quite often with current ’11 OSU commit Kenny Hayes, as well as another OSU recruit in Ronald Tanner. Michigan State holds a strong spot in his positioning due to his friendship with current MSU CB Johnny Adams, comfort level with the staff and the fact his father is an alumna.

Is there any extra pressure since his father went to MSU?

“Nah, no pressure. He doesn’t really care if I go to MSU, he’s just glad that I’m in this position and he knows that it’s my decision.”

The plan is still currently to announce his decision with his attendance at the Under Armour game in January and emphasizes that early playing time and his relationships with the coaching staffs are the two most important aspects in his decision.

MASSILON, Ohio. There was much anticipation as observers waited for star defensive back Doran Grant (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) to work out at the Nike Combine on Saturday. It would be hard to imagine anyone coming away disappointed with Grant’s performance.

In a word, Grant was spectacular.

The 5-foot-11 and 175-pound Grant, an ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds, did the shuttle run in 3.97 seconds, threw the power ball 37.5-feet and had a 41-inch vertical jump. Grant’s 124.5 SPARQ was the highest of any athlete at any Nike Combine this year.

Grant, who is the No. 5 overall prospect in the state of Ohio, has two dozen scholarship offer including Penn State, Michigan State, Ohio State, USC, LSU, Michigan, Iowa, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Illinois, Georgia and Georgia Tech.

MASSILLON, Ohio -- While the weather outside was cold and crisp, Doran Grant (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) was on fire by posting a 124.50 SPARQ Rating Saturday, establishing a new-high mark for the 2010 Nike combine tour.

The 5-foot-11, 172-pound cornerback Grant, who has already collected over 20 scholarship offers from the likes of Ohio State, USC, LSU, Penn State and many others, was attending his fourth Nike Combine in as many years and his experience showed.

After putting up a 109.17 SPARQ Rating a year ago at the Pittsburgh Nike Combine, Grant didn't seem to leave himself much room to improve, but he blew away all expectations.

Grant's day included a 4.56 SPARQ digitally-timed 40-yard dash, combine-bests 3.97 in the shuttle and 41.2 inches in the vertical, as well as a 37-5 foot power ball throw, as he bested every single one of his marks from a year ago.

A Division III Second Team All-State pick last fall, Grant has vaulted himself into a near-certain berth in this summer's first annual SPARQ Rating National Championship to be held in Beaverton (Ore.) at the Nike World Headquarters. The event will feature 20 of the top SPARQ-rated athletes from this spring's combine tour.

He is one of the fastest-rising prospects in the country. He may be the best cornerback in the Midwest.

Doron Grant is fielding offers from over 30 schools.

Doran Grant (5-foot-11, 175 pounds) is collecting scholarship offers daily. As of press time, the Under Armour All-American had more than 30, including Arizona, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, USC, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

As a junior at St. Vincent-St. Mary (Akron, Ohio) in 2009, Grant had 40 tackles and one interception and averaged 20.8 yards on kickoff returns. From his wide receiver position, he had 32 receptions for 666 yards and seven touchdowns. As a sophomore, he had 22 tackles and three interceptions.

Grant's father, Ted Jones, was Michigan State's leading receiver in 1980 and '81, and he has a sister who lives in the East Lansing, Mich., area. The Spartans could be an extremely attractive option for Grant.

His decision likely will come down to MSU or Ohio State. The ESPNU 150 Watch List recruit says the two schools are even in his book.

Grant knows where his family wants him to go. He also knows it's difficult to go against the family.

"I have a pretty good relationship with the coaching staff at Michigan State, and I've went up there a lot for games over the years when my dad went up there for alumni stuff," Grant said. "And I've got a sister up there, and I go up and visit her. So, it's a pretty good atmosphere to be around.

"My dad definitely wants me to be an MSU lean all the way, because it's a father's dream to have your son play where you played at and wear your number and all that. So, that's basically what's going on with him. But otherwise, he's taking it pretty good, and he's letting me freelance and have fun with it. He's not really pressuring me about the experience."

Despite the deep connections to Michigan State, Grant is very interested in Ohio State, and many believe he will end up signing with the Buckeyes.

"I have a good relationship with the coaches at Ohio State," he said. "I talk to [cornerbacks coach Taver] Johnson on a regular basis by e-mail. I also talk to [offensive line coach Jim] Bollman, [safeties coach Paul] Haynes and [head coach Jim] Tressel. We keep a good relationship going and stay in contact with each other pretty often.

"I have a very high interest in Ohio State. I will say that right now: I have a high interest in them. I'm comfortable there, it's a good place to be and they are one of my top schools."

Grant shied away from naming a top five but listed eight schools that he likes the most at this stage.

"These are not in order, but Michigan State, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Michigan, West Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia and USC," he said.
