He was at last weekends junior day.

A name that should start getting more attention is Devin Smith from Massillon Washington. Devin Smith played his freshman and sophomore football at Akron Ellet High School and transferred to Massillon this season.

Only two games into 2009, there is not much film to share on Smith, but at 6-2 and 175 pounds he fits the mold to play WR in college. Devin Smith has a frame that will remind some of Chris Fields or DeVier Posey and is working to develop some of the same football skills. Smith flashed some big time ability as I was scouting him this season and should be a prospect to watch when it comes to Ohio State recruiting.

So far, he likes ND, Michigan, and Michigan St, with the Irish slightly in the lead.

"Getting that offer, I really couldn't believe it," Smith stated, adding the Irish are his early leader. He also holds full rides from Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Bowling Green, Toledo, Miami (Ohio) and Ball State.

"I was shocked. I like the style they play. They have a lot of athletes out there, and they have a pretty good set of receivers and a nice quarterback. I'm digging the way they play."

Smith heard about the offer from his coach, and looks forward to speaking with the Notre Dame coaching staff in the near future. He expects Irish head coach Brian Kelly to have a prolific offense in South Bend.

"I saw what he did at Cincinnati."

Smith plans to take his time before making a college decision. He's taken visits to Indiana and Cincinnati. He's hoping to make it up to Notre Dame's junior day on March 20th. He'd also like to see both Michigan schools in the near future.

Even though he new the football was going to be better, moving and leaving Ellet High and his hometown of Akron behind, was tough for Smith.

"I'm always going to love that place, but right now I'm in Massillon and I'm really enjoying it. There were a couple athletes at Akron Ellet, but to compare it to Massillon Washington, there is no comparison."

Smith reports a 3.2 GPA and wants to major in sports psychology.

Coaches from Penn St are coming to his school, may throw out an offer? TBD.

Speaking of Doran Grant...it turns out he is cousins with fellow Ohio prospect, Devin Smith (WR). Smith is from the same school as J.T Turner and those two stay in touch. Smith and Grant have talked about going to the same school together, but to be honest that is more likely to be OSU than UM right now.

This is bad news IF they decide to go to the same school because I don't see UC having any shot at Doran Grant. Honestly, it is probably slim and none for Smith too but I haven't seen anything ruling UC out yet.

Going to the same school sounds nice, but most of the time it doesn't happen. Although we saw USC pull in some teammates lately. Package deals are tough to pull off, as situations for each player differ, and someone usually benefits while the other gets the short end of the stick.

"Smith shows all the things you want from a young receiver projected to become a big-time player," said Scout.com Ohio analyst Dave Berk. "It's the deep routes where Smith can really excel, as he's got the quickness to elude and accelerate with a burst to separate from a defender and release deep." ...

"Most of the college coaches have told me they like the way I come off the ball, the way I use my explosiveness and quickness," he told Scout.com. "My route running is pretty good. Most of all, the way I attack the football in the air (is really good). I make sure that thing is mine and only mine. I'll fight any defensive back for the football."

The former teammate of JT Turner plans to take all of his official visits before coming to a final decision

I was just looking for his thread. UC was a long shot, but I'm glad we were at least in it (somewhat).

OSU was always looming.
