La Salle senior defensive end Ryan Leahy verbally committed to UC today, nearly a week after he watched a Bearcats’ spring practice on April 9.

Leahy, who is 6-foot-6 and 254 pounds, said the UC coaching staff was very happy to hear from him today.

“They are stoked,” Leahy said.

UC was the first offer Leahy when it did so on Nov. 2. Leahy also had offers from West Virginia, Illinois, Miami University, North Carolina State and Buffalo.

Leahy said he expects to play a lot at strong-side defensive end for the Bearcats.

Leahy, who said he’s been a Bearcats fan his entire life, said he also chose UC because he likes that his family and friends will be able to watch him play at Nippert Stadium.

“I think it will be a great fit,” La Salle coach Tom Grippa said. “He is a West Sider who loves Cincinnati.”

As for the upcoming La Salle season, Leahy said his expectations are clear.

“The goal is to win a GCL title again,” Leahy said.
