Illinois offers Jackson Davis

Posted on September 19, 2011 by Jody Demling

Lafayette High School sophomore Jackson Davis has picked up a scholarship offer from Illinois, according to his father.

Davis, the son of former Kentucky player Johnathon Davis, is a 6-foot-8 forward and considered among the top prospects statewide in the Class of 2014.

Davis previously had offers from Oklahoma State and Eastern Kentucky University. He has visited several schools, including Louisville, Kentucky, Purdue, Indiana and Cincinnati.

Other schools that have shown interest are Minnesota, Arizona, Butler, Memphis, USC, Texas, Marquette and Xavier.

Davis averaged 14.8 points — fifth-highest in the city of Lexington — and 9.7 rebounds a game for the Generals as a freshman.

Johnson Central sophomore Shane Hall is the marquee player on the roster but it was more than just the 6-foot-8 Hall that stood out this weekend.

Hall was still the MVP of the event for his team, scoring double figures in all six games and blocking a ton of shots, while pulling down a bunch of rebounds. Hall had 14 in the quarterfinals 10 in the semifinals and 11 points and 10 rebounds in the title game.

The 6-foot-8 Hall is athletic as can be and is one of the state’s best players. He was scheduled to visit Kentucky after the event but because it’s an NCAA dead period, the unofficial visit was postponed until a later date.

Lafayette High School junior-to-be Jackson Davis is one of the state’s top players in the Class of 2014 and is drawing major college attention.

And while he’s drawing the attention, he’s improving and maturing.

Davis is 6-foot-8 and said he’s up to 220 pounds – close to 30 pounds heavier than he was last spring – heading into the summer evaluation period.

“I’ve been doing a lot of individual work and a lot of lifting,” Davis said in a recent interview. “I’m working a lot on flexibility also. It gives me a lot more confidence when I go inside now that I’m bigger and stronger.

“I still need to keep working hard.”

Davis’ father, Johnathon Davis, said the phone “has been ringing” for his son. The family has talked to Virginia a lot, along with Notre Dame. Other schools that have been in contact include, Purdue, Butler, Miami, Minnesota and Florida State.

2014 Rice commit Jackson Davis of Lafayette (KY) has re-opened his recruitment, his mother announced.

The kid is exploding. UCF, Florida State, Georgia and Georgia Tech., Butler and Vandy have all stepped up and offered since he decommitted. Friday he had 32 pts. and 31 rebounds. Wouldn't mind UC getting back involved with him and making a run at another recent decommit Austin Grandstaff of the 2015 class.

Granddstaff is a scoring machine. Dont think UC will get involved. Big boys already have came calling. Outside of the Texas area Florida and Ohio State are most involved.

Oh, I agree, just saying I'd love it. He can flat fill it up.

Alabama coach Anthony Grant offered 2014 Lafayette (KY) forward Jackson Davis tonight during an in-home visit.
