Shooting guard
Oxon Hill, Maryland
Potomac
AAU: Team Takeover
Ht:6'3"
Wt:175 lbs
Class:2014 (High School)

Can kill you from the 3 with quick shots. He only needs the slightest of space to get his shot off. He could play D1 now physically. Solid and strong, and that enables him to get in the lane and score. Bad defender right now but he has been playing better and harder on that end lately. His strength cold ne a big asset here with consistent effort. Can take over a game offensively.

Wiley was Takeover’s best player in the championship game victory over Expressions Elite. The 6’5” powerful wing made deep jump shots well past the 3-point line including three straight during a crucial second half run. He also rebounded, played physical defense, and shared the ball but it was Wiley’s stroke that jumped off the page in the win.

Dion Wiley (Team Takeover 2014) – The MVP of the 16U championship game caught up with NBE afterwards to discuss the main schools involved with his recruitment. He mentioned offers from Georgetown, Maryland, and Rutgers along with heavy interest from UMASS, Cincinnati, Miami, and Virginia Tech. As of now staying close to home is important for Wiley and for that reason he considered Georgetown and Maryland as his favorites right now. He did acknowledge that his priorities could shift in the next two years but for now location is a major factor.

Offered by NC State. He is not a likely Bearcat though the coaching staff continues to make their presence known.

Played very well at the Hoop Group Fall Jam Fest. Scored on the perimeter and made plays with the the ball in his hands. Build to play high D1 basketball.

“My offers are, Maryland, Georgetown, Rutgers, Miami, Cincinnati, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Villanova” and another school he couldn’t recall, at that moment. It’s understandable, as Wiley was going through literally a bucket full of mail from schools throughout the country, while talking; schools are putting the press on him, so to speak. Presently, there is no leader for his services, and a decision is “a long way away.”

Why did Wiley become a national recruiting name? Well, first of all he’s an excellent shooter, out past three-point land, one that also lets the game come to him, seemingly always making the right basketball play. He can also face up, scoring off stop and pops and getting to the rim. One must also respect his passing ability, which is formidable. During his sophomore season at Potomac, Dion did much of the same, dropping 18.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals, per contest.

I really wish we could nab one of these pure shooters one of these days. To have that 3 point shooter that is unstoppable would really be a treat.

Wiley has other offers from Cincinnati, Connecticut, Miami, North Carolina State, Rutgers, Villanova, and Virginia Tech.

The 6-3 guard broke down most his other offers list with NY2LASPORTS.COM:

Cincinnati: “What catches my eye is the coaches. I like the coaching staff. They’ve been winning also.”

Wiley said Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, and Virginia are currently recruiting him the hardest. Don’t expect a decision from Wiley until his senior season.

Potomac (Md.) junior Dion Wiley emerged as a coveted basketball recruit after a strong showing on the AAU circuit last year, and now that his high school season has finished, the 6-foot-4 guard has no plans to relax.
With 10 high-major scholarship offers already in hand, Wiley, who splits his AAU time between Team Takeover and Maryland Ruff Riders, said he has room to grow as a player and in the eyes of recruiters.
“I still have a big summer and spring going on,” Wiley said last week. “There might be some other schools coming after me. I don’t want to make no decisions yet. I want to wait and make them toward the end of the summer.”
Wiley kept his personal stock trending upward during the high school season, leading the Wolverines to the Maryland 3A final where they fell hard to Milford Mill, 84-55. He averaged 17.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 3.2 steals per game, while shooting 52 percent from the field and 76 percent from the free throw line.
Potomac (Md.) finished atop Prince George’s 3A/2A/1A and closed the season ranked No. 9 in the area, continuing its surge with Wiley in the lineup.
As a freshman, Wiley was not eligible to play after receiving a failing grade in a technology education class, but in the past two years, the team has improved rapidly. The Wolverines bumped their win total from four to 18 to 22 the past three years.
The arrival this season of point guard Randall Broddie, another likely Division I recruit, helped, too.
“We have a great coaching staff, and then we just worked hard every day,” Wiley said. “There was no secret to it. All we really did was work hard.”

Wiley hasn’t added any new offers since Connecticut joined the chase in January, but that could change as the AAU season heats up. The other schools that have offered are Maryland, Georgetown, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, North Carolina State, Villanova, Cincinnati and Miami.
The sharp-shooting guard has made a few unofficial visits so far, attending basketball games at Maryland and Georgetown and a football game at Virginia, according to Coach Renard Johnson. He should have the opportunity to check out more of his suitors in the coming months.
“The only thing I tell Dion is to think about the degree and what it carries as well as the [basketball team’s] style of play. Is this the right fit for you?” Johnson said. “Usually, you can get the feel for a place right away, so I told him to trust himself. … I’m hoping for his sake he wraps [his recruitment] up in the fall, meaning August and September, and then we’ll go from there.”

Dion Wiley is 30-for-60 from three through 9 EYBL games. One of better shooters in the 2014 class.

Love Dion Wiley 's game. Will watch more this weekend. Said #Maryland, #Georgetown, #Florida, #Miami & #Indiana recruiting him hardest #eybl

Maryland continues to put the full-court press on Dion Wiley, but as of right now, he doesn’t appear to be budging from his commitment timeframe.
Mark Turgeon would like to wrap up Wiley’s commitment as soon as possible, but the surging 6-foot-4 guard from Potomac High is enjoying a strong start to the AAU season and the recruiting boost that comes with it.
“Yeah, they have been [trying to get a commitment], but I’m not really thinking about choosing a college right now,” Wiley said. “I think I’m going to wait. I’m not ready to make a decision. I would [trim my list], but someone told me the live period’s not over, so I want to see what offers I get from other schools.”
Maryland, Miami, Cincinnati, Georgetown and Florida have been recruiting Wiley the hardest, though he admitted no one’s prioritized him like Turgeon.
“Coach Turgeon’s been to my school and more of my games than probably any other coach. He’s been recruiting me since the 10th grade … I also have gotten to know coach [Dustin] Clark and coach [Dalonte] Hill,” Wiley said. “It just seems like he cares about me and he really wants me.”
Wiley’s also been hearing from both of Maryland’s local commits, incoming freshman Roddy Peters and 2014 verbal Melo Trimble.
“They’ve been telling me that we could be dominant at Maryland. Both of them have been telling me that. I haven’t really talked to Tre [Campbell] about Maryland,” he said. “I like it there. I like it that I’m a hometown kid and the atmosphere at the games, how live it gets.”
Still, Wiley’s still entertaining all comers. Indiana offered him this week. Texas, Georgia Tech and Florida State are among the recent additions to his list. Gators coach Billy Donovan watched him last weekend at the EYBL event in Hampton, Va.
Wiley doesn’t have any unofficial visits set up, but said he’d like to check out Florida, Miami and Cincinnati. On a non-recruiting note, he said he’s been pleased with how well he’s played so far on the travel circuit. He leads a loaded Team Takeover squad with 15.6 points per game and has made 30 of 60 3-point attempts.
“It’s going good,” Wiley said. “I’m [also] showing my rebounding and defense.”

Might not be out of the running just yet.....

I think we're longshots at this point, but there is obviously some interest an with that who knows what could happen. I can tell you I'd love to have him.

"I'm defending the ball much better," said Wiley. "I really worked hard on my footwork."

He ran down the main schools that jumped into his recruitment after watching his outstanding April play.

"Indiana, Texas, North Carolina, Syracuse, that's pretty much it," said Wiley.

They join a quintet of programs that had already been involved.

"Maryland, Georgetown, Florida, Miami, Cincinnati," said Wiley.

He spoke about Indiana as the Hoosiers have already offered a scholarship.

"I like the style of play," said Wiley. "I plan to visit in June. Not for one of my officials, just an unofficial."

As of now he plans three other trips.

"Maryland, Florida, and probably Miami," said Wiley.

He added that he would like to get those visits in during June because "I plan like an August (decision)."
