Known for his blue collar work ethic and high motor. He has a very good skill set for his size. He has a nice shooting touch and the defense has to respect him from deep. But he can also take his defender off the dribble and finishes strong. Needs to improve defensively and at 6'8" and 205 lbs. could add some bulk and strength as well. North Carolina State, Cincinnati, Wake Forest, San Francisco, have shown interest, while he has offers from Gardner-Webb, UNC-Asheville, Liberty, Winthrop, Manhattan, Appalachian State, St. Joe’s, Charlotte, and Southern Miss.

2014 F Zane Waterman of Fayetteville Academy and Team Loaded has a top 5 of Charlotte, St. Joe's, Richmond, Manhattan & Cincinnati.

IMO he would be a bench warmer a lot of people score and shoot good in highlight videos and against HS competition. Talent wise I just don't see him being anything at UC especially with the talent we landed in our last recruiting class. Its supposed to keep getting better not worse.

This is the type of recruit people complain about and then they grow, or fill out or have a good AAU season and blow up. Then people complain that we didn't land them. I am not saying this kid is that type of player. I don't know. And just because he has UC in the top 5 doesn't mean UC is as high on him. My point is, people need to keep an open mind, especially with big man recruits.

Great example of this, Mitch McGary. If I remember correctly, he was discounted by a few members of this site......

Interesting, looks like he performed well in the same camp that Troy Caupain participated in last year (NC Phenom 150 camp).

6’8 2014 Zane Waterman of Fayetteville Academy in Fayetteville, NC

"We have written about Zane extensively in the past and rightfully so. Zane has made major improvements over the past few years and his work ethic and skill set are starting to pay huge dividends on the collegiate recruiting trail. Zane is known for his blue collar and full throttle approach to the game. His skill sets are advanced for his size/position. Coach Justin McClendon stated, “ Zane is very skilled and tough player. He plays with intensity with or without the ball.” Overall, Zane has the ability to stretch the defense with his soft shooting touch from the 3-point line and can take his man off the dribble and make posterized dunks as well. The next step for Zane is to show more leadership on the defensive end of the court and talk more and not float around on the perimeter. That being said, Zane is a no miss MM prospect."

Brand new evaluation of him today from the same site:

"Zane has great touch well beyond the 3-point line. He shoots with soft touch and a quick trigger. Zane also possesses a high motor that runs all game long. Zane uses length and determination to rebound the ball. Can attack the basket and shows nice touch in the mid-range."

Reminds of the tall White kid in the tournament that ate UC up and a lot of other teams. Can't think of his name........Doug somebody? He could shoot from outside with the best of them but wasn't afraid to scrap inside either. Pretty much could score from anywhere and leave you scratching your head.

Doug McDermott?

I don't know, he's kind of lacking in foot speed. Chinanu Onuaku, Quadri Moore, Gary Clark and Dante Buford and Abdul Malik Abu would be my preference.

2014 Team Loaded (NC) power forward Zane Waterman stepped up on the defensive end as he rebounded and played his role in the low post. Waterman is versatile, agile and can shoot the ball. In June, he spent his first official visit on St. Joseph's, but is unsure where he will look next. Waterman is being contacted most by Charlotte, Richmond, Manhattan, Cincinnati, Appalachian State and the Hawks.
