Class:2014 (High School)

We wrote about him on the first day of camp, but after taking a couple more looks at 6-foot-6 rising junior wing Devin Robinson it was tough not to mention him again. A bit of a Jeremy Lamb clone in terms of style and size, Robinson is a three-point gunslinger with length and athleticism. When rankings for the class of 2014 are updated after the summer, Robinson will absolutely be involved.

After making his name known at Reebok Breakout Camp last July, offers and interest shot up for Devin Robinson. As he was primarily a power forward at that time, the 2014 Christchurch (VA) prospect is developing into a combo forward with the mentality of implementing as many wing skills as he can into his game.

An improved rebounder, whose handle is getting better over time, Robinson is running with the Richmond Squires (VA) and has the green light. Cincinnati, Auburn and Clemson, among others, were in attendance to see him on Friday.

At 6-foot-7 now, he holds offers from Auburn, Gardner-Webb, Xavier, Boston, Rutgers, VCU, George Mason, Virginia Tech, Towson and UConn. VCU is coming on the strongest, while Robinson hopes to check out the campuses of UConn and Xavier in the near future.

If he continues to improve, look for Robinson's offer list to continue to expand throughout the spring and summer.

Four-star junior Devin Robinson said VCU is coming at him the hardest. He's an in-state kid, and has been to the campus. #pittjamfest

On Friday night, Devin Robinson impressed most onlookers – but he wasn't content. As a result, he came out on Saturday not looking to hunt his shot.

“I didn't focus on scoring,” Robinson said. “If my shot wasn't falling, I was going to try to work on something else: grabbing rebounds, playing defense, whatever.”

Robinson, a 6-foot-7 forward from Christchurch School (Va.), is ranked at the tail end of most top 100 rankings. That's not good enough for the athletic Squires Richmond prospect.

“My stock has risen a lot,” he said. “During the school year, I dropped out the rankings. Now I've got a chip on my shoulder, and I'm trying to get back in it.”

At this point, Robinson is already a matchup problem for most defenders. He's long and athletic, and can score in different ways. He knocked down a couple of perimeter shots, and also finished at the rim in transition. Moreover, he has the ability to guard multiple positions.

He made his case for why he should be among the top 100 players in the country throughout the weekend in Pittsburgh.

“It's my length. I close out shooters, get rebounds. I'm versatile, can post up smaller guards,” he said. “I shoot well too.”

VCU, Virginia Tech, Connecticut, Rutgers, Towson and Boston University have all offered, while Cincinnati, Miami, Providence, UNC-Greensboro and Georgetown are showing interest.

Robinson said VCU is coming at him the hardest.

“I've been there twice,” he said. “It's how hard they practice. They get each other better and push each other.”

He also plans on visiting Connecticut later in the summer.

“Just players I can play with,” Robinson said when asked what he's looking for in a school. “Good academics. A great style of play, you know, it fits my style of play.”

He's ranked No. 102 in 247 Sports Composite rankings.

No matter which AAU tournament you're at, by the time that Saturday afternoon rolls around there is always at least one prospect who every coach and scout is talking about. In Pittsburgh, that player is Richmond Squires forward Devin Robinson.

A 6-foot-7 combo forward from Christchurch (Va.) School, Robinson is a known commodity (evidenced by his three-star status and inclusion in the 2014 Rivals150), but college coaches are giving him titles like "most improved" and "most likely to breakout" after two excellent performances on Saturday.

Robinson is in between positions right now, but clearly prefers the perimeter attack, as he knocked down several long jumpers and gave defenders fits with his drives to the rim off of multiple dribbles. Also a long and nimble athlete, Robinson was active in transition and recorded several tip dunks and athletic finishes inside. He's still one of the thinner prospects on the circuit, but Robinson's size, versatility, skill-set and athleticism make him a very good prospect in the 2014 class, and if he's able to consistently produce he's going to be heavily sought by college coaches.

Approximately 20 college coaches stopped in for each of the two games that Robinson's Richmond Squires squad player on Saturday. The No. 106 player in his class mentioned Auburn, Xavier, Rutgers, VCU, Virginia Tech, Connecticut, Cincinnati and Clemson as schools that stand out.

From 247:

Eventually he’s going to have to narrow down his scope and schedule his five official visits. He counts Notre Dame among his top-seven schools, declining to list all the others. He did mention Florida State, Cincinnati, Xavier and Notre Dame as schools he’d like to try and officially visit.

Not sure how involved Cincinnati is at this point but would love to see this kid in Black and Red.

Player: 6’7 2013 Combo/Forward Devin Robinson
Watching this kid on Friday night against the SC Raptors Elite (and outstanding 2014 F Dante Buford), I wondered how long it would take for him to blow up on the national scene. With a handful of D1 head coaches in attendance, Robinson torched the nets from the opening tip, knocking down 3s from multiple spots on the floor and in different situations (a pull-up, coming off a ball screen, and a spot-up). Form isn’t perfect but the result often is. Also flashed a turnaround jumper from 17’ with a defender draped all over him. What sold me on the versatile Jeremy Lamb stunt double was his unselfishness and court vision. Slight frame could use 15+ pounds of muscle. Eats space off the bounce now and can only imagine how effective he can be in 2 dribbles or less if he continues to grow. Can probably guard the 2 + 3 positions in college but not physically ready to shutdown 4’s (even undersized 4s). Has the length to wreak havoc on a stat sheet

The more I see if him, the more I see Jermaine Lawrence. He's a little bit shorter, but he has the ability to play inside and out and has some absolutely ridiculous dunks. He is definitely more of a true 3 than Lawrence is and I bet that is where he will play in college. We need to really focus on picking him up, he would be an awesome get.

Is one of the hottest names in the country right now. Landing him will be a very difficult task.

I agree, but I thought the same thing about Lawrence. Hopefully Mick sends a good recruiter after him and then Mick can come in and finish the job.

Devin Robinson made a big jump in the Rivals150, but it may not have been big enough.
Robinson oozes ability and potential

During the spring and early summer, 6-foot-8 small forward Devin Robinson out of Christchurch (Va.) High was the talk of the grassroots circuit. He made a meteoric rise from No. 106 to No. 24 in the 2014 Rivals150 and the way things look he might not be done climbing.

At the recent NBPA Top 100 Camp the five-star swingman showed flashes of what he's capable of. At LeBron, he's gotten used to playing against lots of high level competition and has looked really comfortable and at times dominant.

Long and lanky, Robinson is armed with a smooth jumper that he can make with ease from deep, and he's a very fluid athlete. Around the rim he's been quite explosive and has started to show what he's capable of doing off the dribble.

Not surprisingly, he's been one of the hottest targets in the country. His most recent offer was a draft-night tender from Indiana, and the Hoosiers join the likes of Auburn, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Rutgers, USC, VCU, Virginia Tech, among others.

Rather than chop things down before the three July open periods, Robinson says that he's keeping things open and see who else jumps in before he cuts things down in August. He also knows that he has to back up the hype that he's generated, and he's not interested in others building their reputations at his expense.

"I have to play hard every game," Robinson told Rivals.com. "Everybody knows who I am now, and they are trying to come after me. I don't want to be the come-up guy where everybody gets an offer off me. I gotta come to play every game."

For Robinson, it's been all about staying in the gym, and he's not satisfied with how far he's come as he looks to tighten up every aspect of his game.

"The biggest thing is I've been getting to the gym every day," said Robinson. "I've been in the weight room every day trying to get stronger, bigger and faster. I think I need to work on my ball handling and being more of a guard instead of setting picks and popping ... more off the dribble stuff."

Devin Robinson

A lanky stretch four-man with a deft shooting touch, Robinson has shot up the rankings this spring and summer and has a host of schools after him.

He listed Indiana, UConn, Oklahoma State, Providence, Virginia Tech, VCU, Notre
Dame, Florida State, Florida and Louisville as the main schools recruiting him.

Evidently Indiana and UConn have the edge in his recruiting. When asked by 247Sports who he would like to visit, those were the two schools mentioned.

"I probably want to visit UConn and maybe Indiana," said Robinson. "I like UConn's program. I like Coach Ollie. He's a great coach. I think I fit their style of play. Indiana is the same thing. Coach Crean is a great coach. He develops players a lot and its a great atmosphere."
