Physically gifted big with good feet and athleticism. He has a football players build and has been compared to Robert "Tractor" Traylor. He needs to mature and to continue to develop his ball skills. Like many young bigs, he spends too much time facing up on the perimeter.

Another New Heights player that has been impressive so far this summer is Pathways NYC product Jordan Washington, a 6-foot-7 post player that combines excellent hands, footwork and a muscular frame to dominate in the low post, even against taller players.

“[Jordan], he’s tough, physical. He’s a winner,” msaid Young. “He cares about his team and teammates. He’s just a great pleasure to coach.”

Washington has the look of a BIG EAST player and it is no surprise to learn BIG EAST schools are watching him in action and making sure he knows they are interested. We can only expect that interest to continue to grow in the coming months.

“Jordan’s recruiting…it’s been going the same,” Kimani Young told Matt Whitfield. “He has Atlantic 10…Big East [and more] schools such as Cincinnati, Villanova, Rutgers, Xavier, Fordham and Penn State.”

Strengths:
Washington has a linebacker's build with terrific size and muscle mass. Opposing players bounce off him in the paint as he is often able to bully people to score and rebound in high volume inside the lane. But what really sets him apart are his feet and agility at such a big size. He runs the floor very well, gets off his feet quickly, can play above the rim, and even has little problem changing direction. He shows evolving skills with the ball in his hands, able to take it off the glass and go coast to coast with his dribble or make jumpers from the short corner or elbow.

Weaknesses:
Washington needs to continue to refine his basketball skills so that he can produce even when matched up against an opponent who can match his physical tools. He has a tendency to get enamored with the perimeter and tries to do too much with his dribble at times. He would do well to develop a go-to move on the low post but more than anything else just needs to continue to mature. He can be emotional on the floor at times, being lackadaisical in spurts where he won't block out on the glass or run the floor.

Bottom Line:
There will be few players in the country who can match Washington's combination of power and mobility. He's always been known for his ability to take the ball off the glass and start the break, but he's gradually adding new dimensions to his game. He's becoming more comfortable playing with his back to the basket and owns one of the softest set of hands you'll find. His mid-range touch is also improved, making him more of a threat at the elbow.

Jordan Washington (2013) – Slow Bucks – Washington is a 6’7” beast in the paint who toyed with defenders throughout this game as he scored a game-high 23 points, including 19 in the first half in an 80-52 win over Bayshore. He appears to have lost 5-10 pounds since I last saw him in July and it has given him added explosiveness that was missing over the summer. Washington is still plenty strong enough to overpower defenders in the lane but also showed better quickness and handle even going coast to coast on a couple of occasions. He needs to work on his shot selection and decision making as his play became a bit erratic at times but part of that is just the style of play at IS8. Washington has all the makings of a low post scoring threat for whichever high major school lands his services.

Washington doesn’t hold any offers currently but he has heard from Villanova, Marquette, South Carolina, Cincinnati and Arizona. In terms of the school he’d be more than happy to attend, that would be Villanova. Washington, who has taken an unofficial visit to Villanova, cited the fact that it’s a good school and he liked the environment as well.

I know there hasnt been much involvement. But as Mick always does, he never stops recruiting and is still looking at big men. He is pretty solid and could work down low for us. Any chances we steal him?

Chris Skinkis heard a number of stories about Jordan Washington when he began recruiting the beefy power forward from Queens. Most of them described Washington as difficult and undisciplined.
Halfway into his first season at national JUCO powerhouse Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa, the 6-foot-8 Washington has either proven those tales false or has changed his ways.
He has been a vital piece to the nationally ranked and loaded junior college, a part-time starter averaging 10.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while staying on top of his responsibilities in the classroom.
“It’s crazy,” said Skinkis, an assistant coach at Indian Hills. “He’s probably one of our best guys. I don’t know if he’s ever overslept or missed class. I think everyone thought he was wild, selfish, a tough-to-coach kid. But really, he’s coachable. When he’s on the bench, he’s probably one of our best cheerleaders.
“He’s been really kind of grateful. He’s really taking advantage of this opportunity.”
Basketball wasn’t an issue for Washington in high school. He led Pathways to a pair of PSAL Class B division titles, picking up scholarship offers from a number of high-major programs. But academics was an issue. Hoping to find a way to qualify, Washington left Pathways in 2012 for West Oaks Academy in Florida, only to return in January 2013.
Skinkis said Washington still needs to drop some weight, but he has been impressed with his new player’s skill-set — his soft hands, quick feet, strength and touch around the basket. He has been productive in Indian Hills’ up-tempo attack, which is forcing him to improve his conditioning.
Washington still has another year left at Indian Hills, but a number of schools are involved with Washington, such as Cincinnati, UNLV, Iowa State, Miami, Marquette and St. John’s.
“He’s got an unbelievable ability to go at you with his body and finish,” Skinkis said. “He’s got a lot of upside.”
It’s been quite a transition, from the hustle of Queens to the quiet of Iowa. Washington said there isn’t anything to do but play basketball, study and sleep.
“It’s getting me ready for the big stage and I’m going to be ready for it,” he said. “I’m learning a lot of things and getting into shape. I just can’t wait to get to the bigger stage.”
