1. Daniels, South Florida, junior: 22 career starts

2. Zach Collaros, Cincinnati, senior: 15

T-3. Ryan Nassib, Syracuse, junior: 13

T-3. Geno Smith, West Virginia, junior: 13

T-3. Tino Sunseri, Pittsburgh, junior: 13

6. Chas Dodd, Rutgers, sophomore: 8

7. Will Stein, Louisville, senior: 2

8. Michael Box, Connecticut, sophomore: 1

Daniels will be the graybeard as a third-year starter, but Collaros, Nassib and Smith all saw significant time in the 2009 season. Smith, Sunseri, Dodd and whoever Connecticut's starting quarterback is will all be playing for a new offensive coordinator this season.

Now let's look at the likelihood of potential quarterback battles this spring at each school:

Cincinnati -- Chance of competition: slim to none. Collaros is the established guy and a great leader who shouldn't have to worry about job security.

Guess Bennett hasn't heard about Luallen...

If there is a QB controversy I'd be very surprised. Zach is the senior and he has great potential. SO many people jumped off the bandwagon after last year. He made some boneheaded plays but you would too if you were getting planted on your ass 10 times a game. Anyways from what I've heard Luallen has a lot of potential but will need time to adjust to the system. IMO, no controversy this year. Let him sit and learn the system then he can challenge for the starting job in 2012.

I've read on other boards that Coach Jones recently stated Luallen is a great talent but he needs experience to become a BCS QB. Hopefully when the opportunities arise for mop up duty Coach Jones will let him run the offense instead of having him hand the ball off 25 times in a row like Chazz did last year.

He made more than a few boneheaded plays and several of them cost the team an opportunity to either take the lead or get back in the game. Now he wasn't the only one on the team that had problems but if he struggles again next year then Coach Jones cannot afford to let him stay at the helm and needs to make a change for his own job's sake. Hopefully Zach can come out strong this year and be the leader that we all know he can be. But in the chance that he doesn't then one of the other QBs needs to be ready to step in.

Have to think Zach will start. also believe he'll be much better with a season under his belt in Coach Jones system. The offensive line could really help him by playing better too.

Gotta give Zach the first look, IMO.
Don't disagree with that at all. He really didn't look comfortable in many situations last year but I am hoping that is just because of the new system. I would like to see those handoffs to the back be more of a read situation. There were a lot of opportunities missed there last year. I am very optimistic for this year. They just need to come out strong with the schedule they have and keep the momentum going.
