Got this from BCN:
"Due to massive blood transfusions, skin grafts and other surgeries as a result of various injuries, including broken bones, Brown said her son required constant care. The pain was so bad at times, she said, he told her “it was like being shot again.”
“Is he alive? Yes. Is his life over as far as his dreams? Yes. Why? Because of a choice Martrell made,” Brown said to Martrell Mitchell. “As I stand here as Alvin’s mom, for your actions Martrell, you have to face consequences.”
And from another story regarding the sentencing:
"Raleigh County Kristen Keller says it's a sad case. She says Alvin Mitchell came to Beckley on a basketball scholarship and now he will likely struggle physically for the rest of his life. Keller says Alvin Mitchell's mother testified during Monday's sentencing.
"It's nothing but a continuous series of major surgeries. He is having serious major problems and she said today (Monday) in court she expects to have to care for him forever," the prosecutor said"
