BCS members had a meeting and purposed that they only deal with the National championship game.

"According to sources with direct knowledge of meetings held in San Francisco earlier this week, the suggested change calls for the BCS to sever its direct ties with the so-called BCS bowls -- the Allstate Sugar Bowl, Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, Discover Orange Bowl and Rose Bowl Game presented by Vizio -- and concentrate solely on arranging a No. 1 vs. No. 2 national championship matchup."

This would all but eliminate BCS automatic bids.

"The proposal also would eliminate automatic BCS bowl qualifying status currently given to the six major conferences. All conferences would be free to make their own deals with the 34 other existing bowls."

"Conferences such as the Big East, which are in danger of losing their AQ status, are trying to recruit successful football programs -- Boise State, for example -- to improve their standing. But according to a conference official familiar with the content of the BCS meetings, the Big East would be affected by any model that forces the league to forfeit its AQ standing.

This would probably not be the ideal situation for UC. UC needs to be in a conference that AQ's to one of the 4 major bowl games.

If the BCS gets rid of all AQ's then the NCAA should do likewise with the NCAA Basketball Tournament. The NCAA Tourney should be the best 68 teams, not the best 48 teams and the 20 teams from minor conferences that got in because their conference got an AQ.

Why shrink the college football fanbase? Some of the appeal of BCS is watching Utah beat Bama, Boise beat OKL, TCU beat Wisky

Also watching the Big Boys destroy the small conferences.

This would turn into SEC vs Big 12 and sometimes a team from Big 10 or Pac 10.

I understand it but don't think it would be good to have 4 or 5 SEC teams in BCS games. Would be a huge turnoff to fans of smaller teams.

This is essentially like eliminating mid majors from NCAA tourny. We all like to watch them but they are never a threat to win it all. Why bother?

Does this smell like desperation to anyone else? This may be wrong and an overreaction but it sure seems like this is coming from the idea that the BCS, and more likely ESPN, realizes that the Big East will be able to keep it's AQ status after BYU, Boise and Houston join the league. ESPN is still pissed that the Big East turned down their offer and I really think they want to stick it to the Big East. Who is the only conference that doesn't have an agreement in place to play in a specific BCS game? The Big East. Do you really think the Big East will be able to negotiate a tie in now? Maybe, but not necessarily.

I also heard on DP earlier that a plus1 was thrown out their in the meetings so it could turn into a positive. (as some know, I am a huge fan of how the BCS is now but if we had a playoff I would really like a plus 1 system)

Butler did get to the NC the past two years....though, you make consider them a major team?
