BE Players to Watch for in 2010-2011
By Chris Dokish
Established players who should improve in the star category next season:
Lance Stephenson, Cincinnati, So.- The New York City native got a lot of heat this season because of his troubled past, his muddled recruitment, and his “Born Ready” persona. But the 6′5″ freshman was named Rookie of the Year and led the Bearcats with 12.3 ppg, while also ending up second on the team in rebounds, assists, and steals. Of course it wasn’t all great for Stephenson. He shot poorly from the line and from three point land, making 66.4% and 21.9% respectively. And he is still often out of control with his playground antics. But the huge talent is there. If head coach Mick Cronin can get him focused, Stephenson has the ability to explode as a sophomore.
Cashmere Wright, Cincinnati, So.- After recovering from an ACL injury the season before, the 6′0″ PG averaged 5.4 ppg as redshirt freshman this season. With Deonta Vaughn graduating, he will now be in charge of the offense.
