With the loss of West Virginia and UCONN not participating, the tournament is set up a little different this year. 4 double byes, 6 single byes and 4 teams playing on Tuesday. As strange as it may seem with 6 games remaining, we are basically locked into a single bye.

We are currently the 7 seed. We have 3 teams ahead of us at 8-4 to get the double bye: Pittsburgh, Louisville, and Notre Dame. While it is technically possible for us to get the double by, it will be very difficult to jump these 3 teams in the next 6 games. We are also 3 games ahead of Rutgers at 4-8 to fall out of the single bye. This is unlikely barring an epic collapse.

Like every year in the Big East tournament, the actual seeds and matchups are a toss up until literally the last day. However, with the single bye line being so large, it is interesting to look at where we currently stand.

The mirror games are going to have a big impact in seeding. There are three teams in this league that aren't very good at all; Seton Hall, DePaul, and South Florida. Marquette, for instance, got 5 games against these bottom-feeders! That's a huge advantage.

Based on the current standings here are the easiest to toughest mirror schedules for the top 10 in the conference, plus any mirror games against the bottom 5 of the league:

UConn (.289) - Providence, DePaul, USF
Louisville (.409) - Seton Hall, USF
Marquette (.413) - Seton Hall, USF
St. John's (.444) - DePaul
Villanova (.477) - Providence, USF
Pittsburgh (.489) - DePaul
Notre Dame (.489) - DePaul
Cincinnati (.556) - Rutgers
Syracuse (.556) - Providence
Georgetown (.600) - Rutgers

Nice breakdown. I do remember Cronin being concerned about our mirrors preseason.
