I don't know how to feel about this. It could be good or bad for the Big East depending on what the Big Ten decides to do. ESPN is reporting this on their bottom line.

Hopefully the Big Ten doesn't turn to the Big East now, although it seems like that's exactly what they'll do.

If so, maybe UC will see an invite from the Big 12? I still think they are going to go to 12 teams so they can have that Big 12 Championship game.

Neither of the Big # conferences will come after UC. We would jump at the chance and rightfully so, but the Big Ten wants big tv markets like Syracuse and Rutgers to get into NYC and will settle for Pitt or West Virginia (I doubt the mountainmen get an invite though their chances are better than ours.

I think you are mistaken about UC. Cincinnati is a decent sized market which the Big 12 has zero pull in right now. In addition, it is a solid recruiting ground for football and one where Texas and Oklahoma only land players once in a while. Cincinnati would add to the quality of football being played in the Big 12 north and would help lesson the blow of losing Nebraska football (lessen, not replace). From a basketball standpoint, Cincinnati would be a nice addition and a major upgrade to both Colorado and Nebraska.

The Big Ten does not want or need Pitt because that market is already covered by the BTN with Penn State. Pitt does nothing for them. It is essentially the exact same situation as UC. WVU isn't a big enough market or fan base to make sense. The Big Ten will look at either Rutgers or Syracuse (not both IMO) and UCONN to get them pull in NYC and the East Coast. If that doesn't work or if they need to add more teams, they will look at Maryland to squeeze into DC. Also, don't rule out Missouri, though that is more unlikely with the announcement about Texas today. St. Louis is Big 12 country and Missouri could get them into St. Louis and Kansas City. The Big Ten will only take programs that will help their BTN. There aren't a lot that make sense. ND, Rutgers, UCONN, Syracuse, Maryland, and Missouri are really the only logical choices out there.

Jason I agree. In fact, I have been saying for a while this is a possibility.

The Big 12 needs to add two to be able to play their championship game. There are many possibilities of who the next two are but UC and UL make the most sense in my opinion. Other names people throw out there are TCU, BYU, Air Force, Houston, Memphis and Arkansas. Arkansas is not leaving the gold mine they have in the SEC to come to the Big 12. That is just silly talk. I think there will be strong opposition to adding more Texas schools to the league since there are four schools already and as well know, the Big 12 North schools think the state of Texas has to much power in this league as it stands. BYU has the issue of not playing any sports on a Sunday, having athletes who are 24 and 25 years old (due to mission) and actually being further away from the center of the Big 12 conference than UC and UL.

UC and UL make perfect sense. The B12 needs larger markets. The B12 is comprised of teams in Ames, IA, Lawrence and Manhatten, KS and Waco and Lubbock, TX. By adding UC and UL the Big 12 not only adds to their football, the strongly improve the basketball conference. TCU and AF definitely aren't basketball schools and BYU is good at times but again, we are talking about 24 year old athletes.

My final point is that UC should want to make this move. The BE is going to be in serious trouble here in the future. If further expansion does not happen now, UC will have to look over its shoulder every year to see if Rutgers, Syracuse, Pitt or whomever will bail to Big Ten. The Big East will be sitting at 8 football playing members while every other conference will be up to 12 with a championship game. That makes the BE extremely vulnerable IMO. UC and UL should make the first move before the schools out east make theirs.
