CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Browns claimed former Cincinnati Bearcats defensive back DeAngelo Smith off waivers from the Detroit Lions.
Smith appeared in seven games last season with the Lions, who signed him on Nov. 18, two months after the Browns waived him. A fifth-round pick by Dallas in 2009, Smith was released by the Cowboys in September.
He signed with Cleveland but was inactive for the season opener against Minnesota and waived on Sept. 16.
Smith made 28 career starts at Cincinnati, where he recorded 126 tackles and 12 interceptions for the Bearcats.
