Is there a guard in the country that plays better on ball D than Cashmere Wright? He's got the quickest hands I've seen in a long time. It seems like 4 or 5 times a game he finds a way to get a hand in there and rip the ball away from the other teams PG. His steals are very important because they usually lead to break away points on the other end. He doesn't seem to move laterally very well and does get blown by quite a bit when he goes up against the more athletic guards in the league, but he makes up for in with the steals.

Last night's game might not have been his best and he did have a few more turnovers than he usually does but he picked Napier clean at least 3 or 4 times and had a number of deflections that helped us win. We don't win that Villanova game on Saturday without his steals, he changed the game in a number of key points.

Cash takes A LOT of heat from UC fans and sometimes it's warranted. When you run the point you have more opportunities to make mistakes on the offensive end and Cash does need to clean his game up a little bit. His knack for getting steals on the defensive end has been huge for this team. The guy deserves some props for what he's been doing to help this team win games.

I agree, his D has been stellar. SK is also playing great on ball D as well. He was able to keep Lamb in check last night which is not an easy task, held him to 14 points. What Gates was able to do to Drummond and Oriakhi, this team has some great potential!

this thread could be about both Cash and SK's defense as of late, both have been excellent against highly rated guards in the country...

not to mention Yancy's performance last night was unseen but absolutely huge for us and helped us get that W

I wanted to write about Yancy too, we don't win that game last night without him. Just didn't want to take away from Cash, he doesn't get a lot of props from our fan base but he deserves to have people talk about what he's been contributing lately.

Yancy may be the MVP of the Georgetown, Villanova and UConn games. His play down low has been great. He has taken any inside advantaged the other team has had away.

Cash's D has been improved and that is key for this team doing well. Although he needs to get better at playing sound defense when he can't go for the steal. Napier's final 9 points last night should not have happened as Cash played terrible defense on a least two of his 3's (the other was a back screen set on Cash). When the last two PG's he has faced have scored career highs, I'm not too ready to say he is playing great defense. Obviously not all of that is on Cash though.

I understand the point here, but i will say, with the way the refs were quick to call hand check fouls and fouls on shooters, i wonder if Cash was hesitant to guard too closely or challenge in fear of giving Napier (who, if i remember correctly is like a 87% FT shooter) three free shots...tough situation, but overall Cash's defense and ball security have been phenomenal and an intricate part of UC's success/run...
Go Bearcats!

In addition, a couple of those threes at the end were absolute bombs. Sometimes you have to tip your hat when a great player makes a play. In this case, Napier was great last night, especially at the end. He was a bit shaky earlier handling the ball and I think Cash did a great job of not letting UCONN get into the flow of their offense. That is just as important as getting steals IMO.

Maybe, but IMO he gave Napier wayyyy too much room to shoot when you know there is a high likely hood that he is going to pull up. In that situation you have to play tighter and if he drives by you then there is help, but you have to limit their best scorers in that situation and you can't let them walk into a 3 point shot in stride....But I'm isolating those specific plays, overall Cash was very good.

Napier and Wayns had career games, I don't think Cash or Dixon's defense needs to be praised. SK and Yancy have been very good however.
