Going into the season this game was as close to a gimme in the Big East as there would be, rivalry aside... UofL has shown some flashes and UC has had some struggles... will this be a battle or will UC make a statement in game one of the drive for the threepeat and put a beatdown on the Cards?

I love the fact that Addidas has made UC one of their schools to try out new jerseys. It is a big selling point to recruits and it is always nice to have whatever advantage there might be.

Now I know that the last game was against Miami but it does appear that the offense is firing on all cylinders finally. That has me leaning toward a Cardinal beatdown but the game is always a tough one in Louisville. I am just hoping they can keep the offense rolling like they have in the last couple games.

If the team was healthy/ier, I'd be inclined to lean towards a beatdown as well... as it stands though, do we know if Wes Richardson is going to play this week?... what about Hoffman?... I think as far the O-line is concerned the struggles at the beginning of the year were both personnel and scheme, so I don't think one injury is going to completely disrupt the success they've had over the past couple games...

I'm excited to see if the defense can continue shutting down the run... Brian Bennett had a post on his ESPN Blog yesterday about statistical leaders in the conference and which ones he thought would hold true and which ones would be proven to be early season flukes... he didn't think UC's league best, rushing yards allowed statistic would hold... hopefully this week the 'Cats make a statement that the run defense is for real, which I think we all know is true... it's the pass defense that is the concern.

Quotes from Charlie Strong's media presser... some interesting lines... I get the impression he's not all that impressed with UC, though I understand a lot of it is coach speak...

He also makes an interesting statement at the end when asked if he thought Fridays should be reserved for High School football. He talks about not once in his career having ever coached for a Friday game and how the way the Big East set up forces them to do so. Seems like Charlie is firing a shot there at his own league... you can say he's being honest, which he is- but why in the world would you, as a head coach in the Big East, take an underhanded shot like that? Some may find it refreshing, I find it foolish... Can you say Brian Kelly 2.0? This guy hasn't even been there an entire year and it sounds like he's already waiting on the first call from the SEC...

Thats funny that you said that. That is exactly what I was thinking while reading that last statement. It sounds like Louisville better not get too used to having him as a head coach. I do agree to an extent though. College football in general has spread out over almost every night of the week but it is what it is. It is all about making as much money as possible as a program so if you are asked to play on a Friday to get national exposure you do it. But I would love to see UC in a position where they don't really have to do that and they get the national exposure on their own. We still have a pretty good uphill battle to get there though.

I got to believe it is going to be Hooey who played for hoffman last game.

I seem to recall both getting time on the line at points this season... I'm just reporting what Koch wrote on his blog... Hooey is a giant as well... so size won't be a problem between those two

Koch looks at depth charts and what Louisville people say. BCL reported a while ago it would be Hooey. Amazing that the beat writer for UC can't get it right.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good win tonight... turnovers aside UC played a solid game... the only other major issue I saw tonight was too many missed tackles... UofL came out tonight with an inspired effort and really played well... that was an enjoyable game to watch.

I agree. It was a great game to watch. Although the defense worries me at times, it is exciting to know that these guys are only sophomores and juniors. I tip my hat to DJ for the catch and his toughness. Hopefully he is alright, and can return for the game next week. A good win to start Big East play.
Go Bearcats!

Anthony McClung got some more significiant PT last night after DJ had to sit out the remainder of the game... the kid really does look solid... he looks to have a bright future...

And from what I saw Hooey did a good job on the line last night... kid is a giant.

The offensive line really played well last night. Did Louisville have any sacks in the game? The fact I have to ask that question says a lot about the progress made by those guys. The offense should have scored at least 2 more TDs if not for stupid turnovers. The defense made some very nice adjustments at half time and held Louisville to 3 points in the second half.
