I agree with Mr. Pitino on this topic. But after this great article, I always am aware of Coach K's statement, "It really doesn't matter what I would want. It's what the players' union and the NBA would decide on," Krzyzewski said.

I wish the NBA would make the D-League more of an amateur/entertaining league. Why not let these 18/19 year old studs go to the D-League, develop and entertain fans. That way the players are able to still get paid and college basketball remains more pure. Sucks that the NBA completely controls what college basketball will be.

Your thoughts?

I agree with Pitino. Forcing kids to go to school when they don't want to or have no intention of going to class the second semester doesn't make sense. I would still love college basketball without the players who would go directly pro. However, I understand the NBA want kids to to take a year after high school to get evaluated and not select the next kwame brown. My issue is if you're 18 how can you be discriminated against in the workplace? could any other job say you have to be a certain age before you can do it? other than the prez that is...

It would be nice to see the NBA actually have a real farm league. The MLB has it. The NFL has an age limit which requires 3 years of college. But what good is keeping kids at school for a year? Its so pointless.

Agreed. Mark Cuban has talked about strengthening the D-league namely by increasing the salary. Right now those guys only make around 30k a year, so a kid out of high school would much rather get pampered for a year at college and play on ESPN every night rather than travel by bus to minor league cities.

D-League out of HS would be awesome. There is enough talent that they could easily make it more of a true minor league. I'd like college basketball to be 3 years too, just like football and baseball. But only if the players from HS have a D-League/NBA option. Bc if they made it 3 years and still no D-League/NBA option, I think that'd potentially force more kids to look into an overseas option. And everyone loses there.

I like this idea. Can go pro out of high school but if you commit to college you must stay three years.

Wow that's only half of what they get for going to Kentucky :D

i used to think the one and done rule was a good idea but its honestly stupid when you get down to it. it really is ridiculous maybe i would feel differently if the one and dones were more spread out but i wish it would just go back to the way it was. i dont know i dont think it matters at the end of the day but just think its dumb to make these kids goto a year of school where they literally do nothing school related anyway

ya thats what they should do if they want to keep the same rule fine but let them be drafted and goto the d league somewhat like they do in baseball. leave it up to the kids

College football and basketball need to get on same page. Happy medium would be 2 years and you can go. Would strengthen college game by funneling talent to more programs in basketball and also send more NBA ready guys to the draft.

i really struggle with this . I raised a college student athlete. He got his degree and had a wonderful experience. I also don't think rules should be in place from kids deciding there own futures and timelines. I do see the risk for them but in Football and Basketball particularly they bring in so much money to the school especially Football they fund the other programs. This is a real head scratcher.

Also have to weigh how many guys have ruined their lives by leaving college too early to reach NBA. At least if you make them stay 2 years they may realize they need to gut it out get their degree as a backup if basketball doesn't work out.

unfortunitely there doesn't appear to be a shortage of players ruining their lives even after making it to professional ranks. My head tells me athletics shouldn't be the reason kids go to school. It can help pay their tuition but a degree should be why they go. Maybe the answer is do away with the whole sham. Why make athletes go to class? It's a contract you come here for 4 years we pay you. You can trade that pay for tuition. You can leave when you want.
