(Except for Gates I assume)
"Trust me," Cronin said. "Nobody wants to play better than those guys do. What I don't want them to do is press too much, which I think has been an issue. As bad breaks started piling up on us, I think the kids started putting too much pressure on themselves.
"The game's going to be close. These games are all going to be close. This tournament is going to be wild. You can't play with stress. You've got to have the pressure to perform, but you can't have stress."
No 11 seed UC (16-14, 7-11 Big East) will play its opening-round game in the Big East tournament against No. 14 seed Rutgers (15-16, 5-13) at 9 p.m. Monday at Madison Square Garden. The winner advances to play Wednesday night against No. 6 seed Louisville.
The Bearcats, who are 0-3 all-time in this event, beat Rutgers 65-58 Jan. 2 at Rutgers in their second Big East game to push their record to 2-0 in the league. Since then, they've gone 5-11.
The conference tournament offers a fresh start, with the champion receiving the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
But for UC to do that, it will have to win five games in five days in a league in which it hasn't beaten any of the top six teams this season.
"We still have our heads up," said junior forward Ibrahima Thomas. "Everybody knows that that loss against Georgetown was a little frustrating, but everybody has a good attitude and we're positive about how we're going to end up the season. We're planning on going out there to win it."
