We talked to him briefly after the one game he played. He is from Mason. According to the Belk Bowl roster he was a walk-on for football as well. I admire kids that can go through the strenuous task of a season and then not get to play and not have the reward of a scholarship. That's something I honestly don't think I could do. I'm sure there's some sort of perks they get. Free clothes and I would assume they get the same access to academic tutoring and help that scholarship players get, but still this has to be a hard thing to do. Props to these guys for what they do for the sole benefit of the teams they walk-on to.

From the one minute he played, it looks like he has no fear of the ball. Grabbed it, dribbled, took a shot, got a rebound...Maybe he'll see a few minutes on the court and prove himself to be a valuable asset ? As if we're short on guards

Brought in purely to help practice.

I wish we could land a walk-on who is a Conner Barwin type, but 6'7" or 6'8". Not to be a jerk, but there has to be SOMEONE on campus with some size who has more skills and athleticism than Nyarsuk.

Obviously, can't be "purely" as he's already been on the court in a game. Must mean 99 44/100% pure - a la Ivory Soap.

Cox answers Cronin's call for help from football team

"When Derek Cox’s father read in The Enquirer a few weeks ago that University of Cincinnati basketball coach Mick Cronin was in the market for a football player to give the Bearcats enough players for practice, he called Derek and suggested he check into it."
