No BS, no mention of the future, does this team, as is, make it past the first weekend of the NCAA's?

really depends on the seed and match ups but based on how they've played in this stretch they are second weekend quality.

Impossible to say because it is so dependent on the matchup but one thing in UC's favor is that, traditionally, good guard play has been a recipe for success in the NCAA Tournament and this team has shown that their guards can carry them when needed.

the good thing about this team, is that when you say "they are improving as the season goes" you are not using a cliche- it is actually happening. they installed a new offense in mid december- not in the offseason. thus they literally are getting better because they are getting a firmer grasp of it as the season progresses.

everyone knows guards can carry you deep in a tournament. i do think, however, that the shot selection needs to improve significantly- and i think it will- for them to make a run. a lot of possessions are waisted right now by guys shooting contested 3's without attempting to drive or make a pass. i have no problem with shooting 3's, but there are a lot of possessions where they shoot without attempting to get anything better. uc plays scrappy D and causes turnovers, which helps make up for the wasted possessions. however, they won't be able to turn over every team they play- and those possessions wasted will loom larger. once they improve here, i think they will be capable of making some noise.

i'd also like to see them get gates more touches. he is a solid passer out of the post, and if nothing else, it keeps teams honest and makes them play further in from the 3 point line and gives our shooters room to get shots off.

My concern is The dribbling around. When this team passes and penetrates they are very good. When they dribble on the perimeter and look for their shots as they did against WVU late they're suspect .

College bball seems like it is down this year. It is open. UK, OSU, Missouri, and Cuse are the best teams IMO and I think we can beat any of them if we play our best games.

We are playing great ball right now. We need to keep the intensity and hunger, and we can beat anyone. I always worry about an emotional let down with teams, H.S, college and pro. They all seem to have games where they lose focus, I hope tonight is not one of those after a tough loss Saturday.

Amen brother Jeff, if they make it a priority on every possession to get the ball in the high post or somewhere in the paint, and create from there they are much better off. It's those lulls when they pass around the perimeter with no off the ball movement when things go badly. They create open and or easy looks off the penetration and passing to the interior.

Reps for Jeff
