One of the more highly recruited quarterbacks as a senior at Oconee County (Ga.) High School in 2008, Mettenberger is expected to visit Cincinnati and Louisville later this month, according to people close to the situation. After sitting out one season under NCAA transfer rules, Mettenberger would have three years of NCAA eligibility remaining.

Mettenberger's dismissal leaves the Bulldogs with only two scholarship quarterbacks for this coming season: Murray and junior Logan Gray. But Gray, who played in 12 games last season as a backup to departed starter Joe Cox, is considering transferring to another school after he was named Murray's backup in a post-spring depth chart.

Saw this on BCN. BTW...GA is in deep doo-doo if their qb goes down and the other actually does transfer.

“I’m excited to have another opportunity to live out my dream of playing Division 1 football,” Mettenberger said, speaking exclusively to kelinjohnson.com. “Both schools have new coaches. Louisville went to the Orange Bowl recently and Cincinnati had a great season last year. They aren’t Georgia, but I will have the chance to throw the ball more at both universities because of a spread offense.”

Love that humility...

Thank God we're not Georgia. A mediocre program in the toughest league in the country. No thanks.

Their Coach is on the hotseat, which is going to make it difficult to recruit.

From a message board..

Some of my buddies are at UGA and they told me... kid's nickname is now "Roethmetberger" or something like that

Things are turning around for former UGA QB Zach Mettenberger, who confirmed exclusively with kelinjohnson.com on Tuesday, that he has at least two scholarship offers on the table: One from the University of Cincinnati under Head Coach Butch Jones and Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach Mike Bajakian. Zach confirms he’ll take a visit to the Bearcats on May 13th. And he’s looking at a second offer from the University of Louisville, under Head Coach Charlie Strong and Quarterback Coach Mike Groh. Mettenberger will visit the home of the Cardinals on May 7th.

Mettenberger tells kelinjohnson.com that he’s had heavy interest and calls from other colleges and universities, including the University of Tennessee, USC, Texas A&M, UK, Troy State, Memphis, and Colorado, and that a number of schools have been calling to get the scoop on Mettenberger from Bulldog Offensive Coordinator, and former winning UGA quarterback Mike Bobo.

Mettenberger, who was dismissed from the team by UGA Coach Mark Richt last month, is looking forward to putting this chapter behind him, after pleading guilty to two counts of misdemeanor sexual battery Monday in Lowndes County, Georgia, where he was sentenced to probation and community service.

“ I know I made a mistake and I’m not going to mess up again,” the 6’ 5’’ Mettenberger tells me. “The people who are judging me don’t really know who I am. “The people who are close to me are the ones that really matter.”

As a former UGA athlete with some firsthand knowledge of what it feels like to mess up and let down the people who believe in you, I think I know exactly how Zach is feeling. But I also believe in second chances. And right now, he’s being given a major one.

Poor choice of words, but he's right. I remember a GA QB going pretty high a few years ago, our stud QB just went in the 6th round. I realize it's not that cut and dry between Stafford and Pike, but it is what it is. GA gets their fair share of five-star recruits, we get three-star recruits. We aren't even close to being as big time a program as GA. Doesn't mean we couldn't beat them on the field, but GA is top level, we are middle level. Thems just the facts.

I would take a look at him if Jones feels he's worthy. This is what a Cincinnati has to do to get better recruits sometimes. I would like for Jones to make him face the team with that comment and apologize for it, but if he would be committed to us I don't see a big deal.

My only worry would be why he would think he could come in here and start just because we aren't GA as he put it. Make sure he is willing to change positions if need be or wouldn't be a headcase if he is a back-up or don't mess with him. Sometimes players deciding to transfer are just crybabies and we don't need that.

Had Kelly stayed here another 5 years, UC might have been. Now BJ needs to show that Cincy can KEEP winning. Remember how last year the best team in Ohio called Clifton home?

At some point, that needs to translate into 4 and 5 stars.

Yeah, Kelly staying could've done that. We might could start getting recruits, but I'd be hard pressed to believe we could ever match SEC donor $'s. Unless I become filthy rich. The fact is we are a city school that will probably never have the support of what a state school can draw. Especially with OSU and even UK 100 miles away. Our only hope is our recent grads and future grads to really start supporting and not be the typical fair-weather Cincinnati crowd. We are moving in the right direction for that to happen, but just look at how our basketball team is treated locally and you know it will be an uphill battle.
