It is all but confirmed that the Big 10 has offered ND, Rutgers, Missouri, and Nebraska.

Before you say they wouldn't go to 15 teams I agree and believe their logic is that they expect ND to decline and they may be satisfied with 14 team league.

They could expand their reach with these teams. They also could split into an east and west division.

This would keep the balance between the east and west as well.

Good find. Losing Rutgers won't effect UC much, although the Bearcats certainly like dipping into the New Jersey pond once in awhile.

Perlman: Report untrue
Posted by: Steve Sipple on May 10, 2010 at 2:24PM CST
A radio station in Kansas City reported Monday that the Big Ten has extended offers to four schools to join the league -- including Nebraska.
Here's the link...
Asked via e-mail whether the report has any validity as it applies to Nebraska, UNL chancellor Harvey Perlman replied, "None whatsoever."
Expect there to be many more of these reports until the Big Ten announces something officially.

This is unusual, Nebraska is saying it didn't happen.

They invited 15 because if ND says no they stay at 14 if ND says yes then they go to 16 by adding BC, Maryland, UConn, Syracuse or Pitt.

A Big Ten spokesman denied the report, telling the Tribune "nothing has changed" since Delany told reporters at the BCS meetings in Scottsdale that everything regarding expansion was "to be determined."

Lending credence to that is the fact that Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Delany has not contacted him regarding Missouri and Nebraska. Delany has insisted he would contact affected conference commissioners before proceeding.

Nebraska officials also denied the report. Asked via email by the Lincoln Journal-Star whether the story had any validity as it applied to Nebraska, Chancellor Harvey Perlman replied, "None whatsoever."

Nebraska remains an attractive option for the Big Ten, though, and a university statement said that Nebraska "would consider any (conference realignment) opportunity that would advance the interests of the university."

As for Notre Dame, the report contradicts what sources have told the Tribune, that the Irish essentially would have to accept an invitation before one is offered. The Big Ten has put in protections to avoid another public rejection by the Irish.

I have never understood the whole he shoots too much...

Kobe taking a bad shot is a better option than most taking a good shot.

Doubt Maryland or BC leave. but I think Pitt is the most likely team to leave for the B10 (although still having a hard time seeing what they gain with Pitt, and will Penn State allow it?).

The Big East, if they lose two will look to add ECU and UCF, with Temple, Memphis and potentially BC or Maryland as the next choices.

This proposed scenario is very good news for the Big East as they would lose just Rutgers and possibly Pitt. In the major sports of Men's Basketball and Football the loss really isn't much with Rutgers, I don't see Notre Dame accepting the invite so hopefully we only lose 1 team and the Big 11 becomes 14.
