We have 3 retired jerseys with Robertson, Martin, and Twyman so the list starts there. But if we were to consider retiring a few more who would they be? I have done a little research and picked out some interesting lists to work from. There are some players on these lists who only gave 1, 2, or 3 years so there might be guys who gave 4 and amassed a lot of stats and wins for us that don't show up so we can talk about them too.

I will start with All Americans not previsouly mentioned. This is from the UC website. Cummings is also listed but it doesn't say which level he achieved.

1st team...

Logan, Fortson, Bonham, Yates, Hogue, Thacker, and Weisenhan

2nd team...

Dierking, Davis, Wilson

3rd team...

Van Exel, Mickeal, Batts, Dallmer

Honorable Mention...

Patterson, Levett, Brannen, H Jones, Ard, Yoder, Collier, and Miller

Freshamn AA...

D Johnson, Wingfield

Academic...

Rolf

Here are some McDonald AA...

Stephenson, Johnson, Satterfield, Fortson, Flint, Wingfield, Legree, Mclendon

Here are some pro players not yet mentioned in somewhat chrono order...

White, Maxiell, Bobbit, Long, Blount, D Jones, Austin, Kennedy, Lee, Miller, Franklin, Dickey, Harris, Ogletree, Roberson, Smith, Howard, Callaway, West, Krick, Bouldin, Willey, Mendenhall, Stevens, Nimmo

Here are some players still yet to be mentioned...

Hicks, Burton, Stokes, SK, Flint, Vaughn, Banks, Durden, Gates, Wright, L. Robinson, F Williams (I think they are all in the 1,000 pt club)

I don't know much about the old timers but I would be interested to hear who we would vote to retire if we had to come up with a total of 10 (with three already). If you have players you want to add feel free.

My first choice of the more recent players would be Fortson. He was a Mcdonald's AA, freshman AA, 1st or 2nd depending on the poll (in year 2), 1st team concensus year 3. Then went on to play in the NBA and finished #3 in scoring in Bearcat history. That's pretty good for 3 years. He would easily be #2 had he played all 4 years.

Logan was concensus AA first team and is #2 in points for UC history and is listed among a host of other career marks. He's my second choice.

I would think Logan would be next, being second in scoring behind the Greatest Player of all time in Oscar and what he did for us in 4 years. He was the player of the year candidate his senior year, but did not take us deep in the tourney. I think if he led us to the Final 4 that year we may have retired 22.

But what about Mick Cronin for Bearcats HoF! Came in at such a low point in the program when fans and players were jumping ship. Put together a recruiting class in his first couple months of Jucos, small name players and one athletic football player that came in and fought for each W. Followed that with a top 25 recruiting class. Now we are expecting top 25 seasons and can hang with most teams out there. He has his own style of play (a mix from Huggs and Pitino) that involves the entire team and pressuring D. He did not put up with anything going back to Alvin Mitchell, Yancy Gates, Octavious Ellis and how he handled "the Brawl" was just perfect. I think he will pass Huggs up in a decade or so and be our top coach in history. Sorry to all the Mick bashers out there, but he has been a great hire and will be in our Hall of Fame

If I had to work from players from the time Huggins first started (which is when I attended UC) until now...this would probably be my starting 5.

Martin
Fortson
Patterson
Van Exel
Logan

If I had to retire just one 6th man jersey of all time it would go to Darnell Burton...one of my all time favorite players.

I think he ranks 11th or 12th in total career points, is 3rd in games played, 1st in 3 pointers made, 2nd in 3 point %, and 2nd in steals all time as a Bearcat. Two time conference 6th Man of the Year.

Pretty damn good for a 6th man. This kid could flat our shoot the rock whether he was open or a man in his face. His release was one of the fastest I have ever seen in a UC uniform.

(for some reason the UC history page isn't updated so one or two of these stats could be slighlty off like Cash with steals, Vaughn with points, maybe Gates with points not sure, perhaps games played has changed)
