Alright, Butch is gone, UT is a great job and good for him. Time to move on folks. Who do we want to see as the next head coach at UC? What candidates do we think could be or should be on the short list?

I want Petrino

I know this may sound a little bit crazy but what about Jim Tressel? UC wants to get into a big time football conference and a big name coach could help with that. He knows how to recruit Ohio. Could be a good fit....

I hate Tressel since I hate OSU, but I could learn to like him if he was UC's coach. Anyone know if the school could choose which 5 games Tressel would be suspended for if he was hired? Would be nice if he was suspended for the cupcake games. However, he would probably want to change our offense. Another big name is Fulmer, and he knows how to recruit as well (not sure if he is interested in getting back into coaching). Petrino would be great since his offensive scheme would be similar to want we currently run, and the players wouldn't have to adjust much; however, his exit at Arkansas may be too much of a black eye. Other possible candidates that I would like UC to look at are: Hue Jackson, Matt Campbell, Specht (jk), Coombs, Jeff Quinn (although he was 4-8 at Buffalo).

Tressel = Not going to happen. Too much baggage.
Fulmer = Don't see him getting back into coaching and frankly, not at UC if he did
Petrino = See Tressel above
Hue Jackson = Would love this. Not sure he couldn't land a bigger profile job though. Worth a call for sure.
Coombs = Would like to see him develop some recruiting ties while with OSU before coming back. Too soon IMO.
Jeff Quinn = don't think he has IT as far as HC goes

Tressel is not a possibility. He is basically banned from coaching until 2015. Read below;
On December 20, 2011 the NCAA placed Ohio State on an additional one year's probation and banned it from postseason play in 2012 for numerous major violations under Tressel's watch. It also imposed a five-year show-cause penalty on Tressel, which means any NCAA member that wants to hire him would have to "show cause" for why it shouldn't be sanctioned for hiring him, and could face severe penalties if he commits any further violations during that time. The order stands until December 19, 2016; given past precedent, it will likely have the effect of blackballing Tressel from the coaching ranks until the 2017 season. If Tressel ever coaches again during this period, he will be suspended for the first five games of the regular season, plus any conference championship game or bowl game. The NCAA came down particularly hard on Tressel because he'd had four chances to tell the truth and failed to do so. Among other things, he claimed that he didn't come forward because he believed doing so would jeopardize a federal drug investigation involving Rife.

He will be a big time Coach! Cinci should take at serious look at making him an offer

Footballscoop.com, which over the last week I have come to respect as an extremely reputable site, is reporting that Whit's #1 candidate is Pat Narduzzi. They follow that up by saying Whit feels pressure to make a splash with a big name hire to boost our credentials for a future ACC bid.

hue jackson is actually interested per sources (sources=my thoughts)
Would be a great hire in my opinion. Has ties to the Pro team in town and other NFL players and coaches.Has the name recognition that may generate interest and could call on former players to help sell the team and his abilities to get players to next level. He also knows the game very well or he wouldn't have gotten the chances he has.

great points...would definitely be happy if we got him

I'm hopeful that the search will end quickly. I'm a huge proponent of Dave Clawson, current head coach at BGSU.

He's young, but he's won everywhere he's landed. He turned Fordham into an FCS power, and then did the same at Richmond. Mike London, current head coach at UVA, won the FCS Championship at Richmond with Clawson's players. Phillip Fulmer hired Clawson as the OC at Tennessee but was forced to resign shortly thereafter. He then landed at Bowling Green, where he inherited little, and turned the team around after three years. He is from New York, so his ties to the Midwest are only his four years at BGSU. Just glancing at his overall record is misleading. His recruiting hasn't been out-of-this-world, but it is BGSU, and he has managed to land some three-star prospects.

Matt Campbell would be tops on my list. He has done more with even less resources and has been great. If ya can't beat him, join him, it has worked for OSU. ;)

I would like a Matt Campbell hire. But I think the best hire would be Kerry Coombs. Make that hire and you have another guy with the same mindset as Mick Cronin. You have a coach for years. He's enthusiastic, has great local ties, would be great with boosters and in homes, and has a love for the city. Kerry is a good enough football guy that with the returning talent he'd be fine and he'd have a year to grow. He's spent a year under Urban and knows how a big time football program is ran. Campbell or Narduzzi may be sexier but I think Combs is the best long term answer for this program.

Seriously? Coombs doesn't even have coordinator experience. He ran a triple option offense at Colerain and was the DB coach at UC when we had the worst secondary I've ever seen. He might be energetic and a decent recruiter but outside of that he brings nothing to the table. Let's also be honest about his recruiting. Its not like he cleaned up on local talent when he was here and that's what he was brought in to do. He didn't convince one big time local prospect to commit to UC. I doubt he get any consideration for this job so I'm jot worried about it.

Jeff you could be right but i am skeptical. growing up Catholic in Cincinnati I was a ND fan as well as UC. After watching the Gerry Faust years i have my doubts about Kerry. Kerry does have some college experience but it is a big step.i perfer some one with head coaching experience. Withall going on out there right now we can't afford to miss on this. It could be our last chance to become relevent.
