How about them Bearcats!

I'm not sure what to make of Munchie's throwing. My main thing though, is that he needs to work on his timing/lead. He had a few very nice passes but he also left some big plays on the field, by either throwing it behind or throwing it low. On the upside, he isn't mistake prone, he didn't make any "WTF were you thinking" throws like I saw Collaros do every game last year and if he runs some each game, we're going to be hard to stop. I like what they did with the TE Kelce and I think RDA IV's abilities will be well used. George Winn needs his props. Although he went untouched on the first TD run, that second one for 9 yards was hard fought.

On the defensive end, we have depth. The lineman were impressive, the linebackers did well enough. I also have to give credit to Drane for that stand against the bigger reciever at the end of the first half. Other than the 2's, who gave up that TD at the end; this is a great unit. I think we may have the advantage in the Big East, if only because we actually have a defense. We might be the only team who does.

How nice is it, to have a coach who's defense oriented?

Love the outcome and was def impressed considering it was the first game! The team looked prepared and having no turnovers with no major penalties was huge. There us something about Muchie's throws that does not look right. He drops his arm back so low it looks so awkward. Its like the football is too big for him. Granite he did not make any wtf throws but its hard to see him being successful throwing 10-15 yard throws. It seems like we will see a lot of dump passes and out throws which will not get it done.

Kirk Herbstreit picked Pitt to win the Big East, why would you say Pitt isn't very good?

They lost to Youngstown State for one. They are not a good team right now. On the other hand, UC is a good team and are well coached

Mo Egger sides with me as well.
I'll start by trashing the opponent, not because I want to take away from what UC did last night, but because it was hard to watch that game and not spend at least some time thinking about/laughing at/wondering about how bad Pitt is. I know they've had three (really four) coaches in three years, and one had a drastically different offensive philosophy from the other two, but the Panthers are still a really, really, poorly coached team.

It's been a rough season so far for Pittsburgh, who's final season in the Big East began with a payment of $400K to Youngstown, only to see the Penguins pound them at home, then a $150,000 charter to Cincinnati to hurry them toward their beatown at the hands of the Bearcats.

Regardless, UC did what they are supposed to do. It wasn't pretty all the time but they clearly outplayed Pitt

Munchie is not going to throw the ball for 400 yards a game. He is not that kind of passer. Was he inaccurate at times? Yes. Can that be frustrating? Yes. But let's break it down a little more. Munchie did a couple good things with his inaccuracy. He only threw one questionable pass, his decision making was very good, and his bad throws were low and not high. I would much rather him miss a throw into the ground then sail it high and into the arms of a waiting safety. I will also take no turnovers every single day.

I think Paul Dehner Jr. summed up Munchie's performance pretty well: "He threw for 204 yards and ran for 117. Dating back to 2004 (as far back as I could find records online), no quarterback has thrown for 200 yards and ran for 100 in a game for UC.

Take who most consider the top dual-threat QB in the country in Denard Robinson. How many times last year did he throw for 200 and run for 100? Just twice. This doesn't happen all the time, folks. Say what you will about some of the missed throws and 14 of 28, when a player can offer that kind of versatility and explosion in the offense becomes exponentially more difficult to defend. "

We all need to realize that this is game 1, Munchie's 4th start ever and he will continue to get better. This team has a lot to work on, but that's a good thing. They are not going to be content or overconfident from this win. Munchie rated his own performance as a C+. I think that is a little harsh. I would give it a solid B. He missed some throws and big play opportunities but he also led two drives from his own 1 yard line and didn't get rattled. He changed the game with his feet several times and showed he can run this offense with confidence. There is a lot to like here, guys.

Awesome breakdown

I agree, I think Munchie will be fine and his passes will continue to get better. He still seemed to rush some of his throws. Maybe he goes in each play knowing where he wants to go with the ball and gets ahead of himself. I'm not sure I like them going five wide with Munchie (which they did alot). I know he could take off running, but for a guy that's not the most accurate passer in the world, maybe keep the defense honest a little bit with keeping a running back in the backfield. Good win, though, Pitt's one of those teams that's talent outweighs it's play and can beat you if you let them. We made the big stops when necessary, even if one of them was the clock running out at halftime. Wins like these will only build experience and confidence.

With how wide open the receivers were all night, a 50% completion percentage is borderline pathetic. Munchie has a horrible release. I really hope it doesn't cost UC in a meaningful game, but it will in all likelihood.

It may, I could see a problem with the Va Tech game. You're not going to have a lot of oppurtunities to throw screens and shallow passes against them. Run blocking will need to improve a little, I'm confident with an athletic front line it will but Munchie is going to have to throw it deep if we're to win that one. Luckily, the Hokies aren't offensive juggernauts this year and we have a solid defense. Don't expect to see this team score tons and tons of points against solid opponents. The way we play, we hopefully won't need to.
