Interesting stat I looked up. Last year had just 4 Bearcats lead them in scoring in a game (Kilpatrick, Jackson, Rubles/Caupain tied in the same game). In 4 games this year, UC has had 4 different leading scorers: Ellis, Cobb, Caupain and Clark.

It bodes well that we have multiple guys that can score and multiple guys that can step up. At some point we need some consistency out of guys and to find an identity. That will come. (Hopefully)

I've got a bet with a guy at work (a former UC fan converted UK fan ... he just graduated from there) that 8 different guys will lead the team in scoring this season. So far four games, four different leaders. I like my odds. I'm thinking KJ, Shaq, Sanders, Morman, Guyn and Deberry all have a pretty good shot at earning me a win with my bet.

That is a fair bet because I think it will end up being close to 8. I see Johnson and Sanders leading them in scoring at some point merely because of the three point shot. After that it will be close to see if Thomas will be able to get there (with the low, balanced scoring it may only take 12-13 points), those other guys are wild cards.

I know Mick likes his athletic bigs, but the way DeBerry plays around the rim he needs to be getting more minutes. He had two very nice rebounds and put backs last night. He has such a soft touch. I like what Moore brings to the table and I think his future is bright, but he definitely needs to work on his footwork. I think as the season wears on DeBerry will see more minutes than Moore. I bring this up because the discussion of guys leading in points and his name being brought up. After he had his first put back last night the usher standing in front of us turned to me and said he should average 20 a game as big as he is. Kind of made me think, yeah... I could see a game where we play a team with bigs and we need size and we're chucking up threes because that's what we do and DeBerry gets alot of second chance points. If we could feed the post he could be even better.

I think you will see DeBerry get a lot more minutes as we get into better competition. So far we have been playing against smaller and quicker lineups, but when we start playing teams with true post players, his minutes will increase. Just like the other guys I think he needs some time to get used to the new style and new teammates. He will be fine.

I had high hopes for Strickland as well, but so far he does not seem to be off to a great start, what with the suspension.

His development would give UC a rare commodity in college basketball these days. A true post up big man. He just needs to get into shape because he can score close to the basket.

I think DeBerry has looked solid, but just watching him run, I don't think he can ever be a huge minutes guy. He tires very easily, and I'm not sure he has the endurance to play 25-30 minutes.

Another stat: Cincinnati has not scored 70 points in 8 consecutive games. It is the longest such streak since 2012-13 when UC did not score 70 points in 15 straight games!

With the win last night, Cincinnati has now won 32 consecutive games in which they scored at least 70 points. The last loss when scoring over 70 was at Marquette on February 11th, 2012 by a score of 95-78. Since the beginning of the 2010-11 season, Cincinnati is 56-2 in games where they scored at least 70 points.

Tough to beat them when they score that's a fact.

I heard an interesting stat today. 84% of 3s made in the NBA come from an assist. I wish someone would tell our guards (mostly KJ) that. If the NBA players are mainly shooting off the catch, then I doubt our guys will have much success shooting off the dribble or trying to create deep shots for themselves. We have to get the wings to move towards the hoop. Ellis did a good job getting to the middle against the zone, but none of our guys consistently moved in to change the angles. Just way too easy to defend. When our guys get nervous, their default mode is to stand and hold the ball. At some point it has to click that in big games you can live with guys on the wing doing pretty much anything but that.

Percentage of three's assisted:
Jermaine Sanders- 94.1%
Troy Caupain- 88.9%
Kevin Johnson- 83.3%
Farad Cobb- 77.4%
(Quadri Moore and DeShaun Morman are at 100% but they have so few makes)

Hoop Math

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. Seems like Sanders would be shooting a higher % from 3. Also noticed that KJ had the highest % makes at the rim assisted on the team by far and he is a low shooting % there overall comparatively. He needs to get himself to the basket.
