Well earned! There's a lot of talent in the AAC, that's pretty impressive (and would be for any conference).

Jackson should be the front runner to win defensive player of the year in the American, and if he keeps up this offensive performance he could win the player of the year as well!

When was the last time a UC player won 3 straight conference player of the week award? I have no idea. Does anyone else? JJ winning just one of these would have been unthinkable coming into this season. 3 in a row. Unbelievable. The last player improving this much from 1 season to the next may have been Bobby Brannen. Kenyon made a big jump from junior to senior year, but there was some speculation that he may have tried to go pro after his junior season. So the improvemnt may not have been as dramatic as JJ's. We just need him to keep it up. Let's go for 4 in a row!

How many total for UC hasn't SK won it twice?

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but I will anyway, does JJ realistically have a shot at the NBA should he continue to put up these numbers the remainder of the season? Before you shoot this down, hear my thought process out. For the record, I think it is a long shot, but here is maybe why it could happen:

1. Athleticism - We all know that is most important in the league. JJ has it.
2. Motor - we are seeing the relentless motor put to great use
3. Defense - his defensive instincts are off the charts. Our only complaint has been his propensity for fouling. So far so good on that front this year.
4. Versatility - his ability to switch on pick and rolls and guard smaller players is a translatable trait and the NBA is a pick and roll league

Larry Brown said JJ reminded him of a young Ben Wallace. If JJ gets a chance is it too far fetched to think he could stick somewhere as a role player? Thoughts?

just don't think he has the offensive game to be in the League. He reminds me of Dennis Rodman and I just don't think you see those types of players in the NBA anymore

If he finishes this year out playing like he has been I think he'll get a good hard look. Whether or not he gets drafted is another story. Teams love drafting young players and overseas players. I got to think there are some teams that would love to have a defensive guy off their bench come playoff time.

JJ makes it a trifecta:

Three in a Row for Justin Jackson as forward earns @American_MBB Player of the Week yet again. #Bearcats http://bit.ly/JDM7nd

It's really amazing to see him playing like he is right now. I thought he would have to play conservative on D to stay in the game. Well he's not...he's just playing very smart efficient BB right now. His angles on blocks are calculated and he's getting a lot of deflections and steals without fouling too much. His instincts are at a high level right now. He's passing the ball so well and receiving it well on pick and rolls. His passing from the low post has also been great.

I haven't even started on his point production, leadership, coaching, encouragement, hustle, the team's emotional connection with him, rebounding, etc.

His overall impact on this team right now cannot be overstated. I really hope JJ's play will help SK relax a little and let the game come to him. SK plays his best when he's not thinking too hard about how he's going to score...he's pressing a bit. SK is much better when he's playing with his instincts and not overthinking things.

Over his last 6 games he's averaging about 15 points but I would like to consider the rest of his impact. What I am about to offer is not going to be scientific...but if we apply the same rules to everyone it can give us a decent indicator.

I am going to attempt (again not scientific) to weigh the other positive and negative stats besides scoring. Rebounds, assists, blocks, steals and turnovers. To make things easy I am going to say that for every one of these stats we will score roughly 50% of the time after they happen. So each one will result in one point (TO's -1 of course).

Over his last 6 games lets say (without retrieving exact numbers) JJ has been averaging 9 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 turnovers. In my oversimplified calculation that is an additional 15 points to his actual 15 points for a total of 30 adjusted points.

SK on the year has been averaging about 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 2.5 assists, 2 turnovers, and 0 blocks. Adding the additional stats to his point totals would be roughly 6.5 additional for a total of 25 adjusted points.

Obviously the bigs will get an advantage with rebounds in this scenario...but only JJ is gaining significant ground from blocks. You would think guards would have the advantage with assists and maybe even steals. Anyhow, this was just an interesting excersize to try and gain some perspective of JJ's overall impact.

Just to give you an idea...a quick glance at a couple of other players adjusted numbers would probably put Rubles in 3rd at about 15.5 adjusted points and then Caupain, Thomas, and Sanders at 11-12 adjusted points. TR gets a boost from rebounds (between 2-3) and blocks (1) but he's holding his own on assists and steals as a big man to his credit.

JL, KJ, and GG would be at roughly 8, 7, and 6 respectively.

Adjusted for minutes played it would look like this in rank...JJ (only last 6 games), SK, TR, TC, JS, ST, KJ, JL, GG

Of course these are only stats...it doesn't take into consideration things that don't appear in the statbook. How many points are scored against you, do you cause a breakdown in our D, does the chemistry work better with you on the floor, etc.

Here is another distinction which is not limited to the AAC but the entire NCAA. Player of the week on this site.

LINK

As far as I can tell it's the first time since the site started keeping this honor in Jan of 2011 that a Bearcat has been named National POTW.

Justin jackson is a monster, I can't tell u how much I love watching him. I refer to him as "the Machine". He gets the game now, plays controlled and plays great. Stay out of foul trouble like he has been, and we are a great team. Can't wait for tonight and games to come this team can play

Love JJ and have since his freshman year because of the hustle and energy he always brought. Now it is all coming together. I do not think he will be drafted, but I bet he will play pro ball. Maybe even get a glance at the NBA. If Joakim Noah can do it with no offensive game, maybe he could as well.
