Kelly and ND close to a deal

Talks progressed well enough that the official announcement Kelly will be Charlie Weis' replacement could come as early as Friday -- any time after Cincinnati's football banquet Thursday night.

One Bearcats player the Tribune contacted said he sensed, from Kelly's tone and mannerisms, that his departure was imminent.

All this fits squarely into the expected timeline for Notre Dame, as the Tribune previously reported a final decision and announcement was likely by the end of this week.

The backup plan for ND is apparently Edsell and possibly Tommy Tubberville...although barring a complet collapse, I think BK is going to ND. Coombs is supposedly going to coach UC in the bowl game, which I find surprising.

Brian Kelly is believed to be meeting w/ ND officials today. Look for something to be finalized, or both parties to walk away, and ND going elsewhere (see Edsell or Tuberville).
We should hear something tonite or tomorrow am at the latest, I would think.

Word is coming out that there could be some complications between ND and Kelly. This could mean nothing, or the major reason why Edsell is getting a look so close to when Kelly is supposed to announce a new coach.
I'm still of the opinion BK is gone until such time as I hear it from his mouth.
