UC's WPI took a major hit last night. That's not a typo. UC's RPI heading into last night's tilt with mighty South Florida was 48. Surely, it'll take a hit after a loss to the Bulls. The hit their WPI will take will be even worse. The WPI of course, being the Watchability Percentage Index.

Here's the weekly disclaimer that at this point I shouldn't be required to write: I am a diehard, DIEHARD fan of this basketball team. I root for the coach of my favorite basketball team. I root for t he players on my favorite basketball team. I want them to win. Professional obligations require me to offer up opinions of them. When they lose, those opinions aren't favorable.

Geeks like the RPI. Geeks will pound out numbers like Lady Gaga pounds out unlistenable songs. I'm sure the geeks will tell us about the strength of schedule numbers and the record in the last ten games, or how the Cats have done against the RPI's top 100. I'm sure the RPI will tell us the NCAA Tournament is still within reach.

The WPI will tell us another story. The WPI, quite simply quantifies how watchable a team is. It measures variables like ability to make baskets within three feet, how often passes are completed to fans in the first row, how many free throws are missed, how often you yell at the TV while a player stands still on offense, or how frequently your attention drifts to something else, like another game, or the men in sequins skating on TV, or the snow you have to shovel, or the sleep you've been meaning to catch up on.

UC's WPI is very low right now, so low that on ESPNU last night, they kept promoting a basketball game between DePaul and Rutgers immediately following the UC/USF tilt, and after a while, I actually began to look forward to it. UC's WPI is lower than an episode of Jersey Shore. Bob Bratkowski's offense passed UC in the WPI rankings last night, with Jay Leno at 10:00 surely within Cincinnati's sights

Hard not to agree with Mo.

I posted last nite that I was glad I didn't expend money or time going out to a bar to watch that game.
Flipping back and forth from the game to the (Winter) Olympics is usually verboten, but it happened.
