There is no complaining about this new offense. The team looks very good, granted we are playing weaker competition but we are blowing teams out, you can't ask for much more.

This is what people like me have wanted to see from Mick all along. I'm really not sure why his hand had to be forced by the suspension to start running this type of an offense(that's another issue for another thread)but at least he finally did it. For those of you who were such big supporters of what he was doing before maybe now you'll be willing to admit that Mick was holding these guys back a little bit.

There is zero reason why you can't continue to run this offense when Yancy comes back. This offense will only become better with him in it. He is the perfect type of big to have a ton of success in this scheme. When Yancy and however the hell you spell his name get back it will help with the rebounding and post defense. You don't have to have 4 guards on the court to run this offense. You can run it with 3 guards and Yancy in the 4 spot just as effectively. If the offense does suffer when Yancy comes back the answer is simple, sit him on the bench.

Mick just needs to win games. Style points are an added bonus. All I've ever wanted from the guy was to win and to watch this team play a game without wanting to pull my hair out every time we got the ball into our half court offense. I am cautiously optimistic at this point that we have seen a turning point for Mick here at UC. I can't fathom that he would ever go back to coaching the style of game he did before the brawl.

I think it's now clear that we have some talented players on this roster, much more talent than any of us were aware of because Mick's old offense had the talent masked. I don't know about anyone else but I'm excited to watch this team get into the Big East. The way we are playing right now we are going to be a tough team to beat.

I think there was too much effort to involve Yancy in the old offense. From statements I've heard there is no thought of going back. Yancy is going to have to fit in. I believe he will greatly benefit from it as it will open the lane and allow for less double teams of him in the paint.

They are shooting lights out right now from the three. This will go down against quicker, stronger, more athletic defenses that recover quicker. However, spreading the floor will still have a benefit.

To me it doesn't matter why or when the change has come. It has and the team has found an identity and self of oneness in it. Instead of beating a guy up over it why don't we give him props for the performance of the team?

Regardless of competition the team is more together. I believe it is largely because the players have taken an ownership of themselves and are talking and helping one another. The combination of that and the new offense has this looking like a team not just a group of individual players trying to score. I also feel this style will make them more attractive to potential recruits.

I don't think I was beating Mick up at all with my post. I'm giving his team credit and I'm happy that he's made a necessary change.

There is no way that we lose to Presbyterian and Marshall if we are running this offense early in the season. After the Pres game Mick said we couldn't win games unless we were winning them ugly. To me it's concering that he could have misjudged his team so badly.

All that aside, he made the change and I am happy about that. It's still fair to question what the heck we were doing earlier in the season. We could and should be ranked in the top 25 right now. Plus I have to give a little bit of "we told you so" to everyone here who blindly supported what this team was doing earlier in the year.

I'm willing to clean the slate on this season with Mick starting right now. Just keep winning and keep playing the same way we are playing right now. We will see how this all pans out at the end of the year.

PS - Mick addressed the 3's in his post game last night. He commented on how even though we made 15 3's we were still getting a lot a penetration and points inside the 3 point line. The beauty of this offense if you don't have to make 15 3's to score. You can score in a number of different ways.

I think this is the first time Mick has really had this much talent on a roster. Last year we didn't have the offense with the senior class. These freshmen are better offensively than the seniors last year. I think another issue was Cash's health. I think, after offseason knee surgery, Cash was a bit slow getting back to his old self. He is clearly back and as much as the offense changing has helped, so too has his emergence as a leader. You need your PG to be a leader to be successful in college ball. Cash deferred too much early in the year. The suspensions have forced him to step up and he has done that. For those who were mocking me for saying that he showed he could shoot the ball in HS, ready to admit I was right?

You were 100% right. How many times did people say that we should blame the players for the way the team was playing? The blame for what happened earlier in the year goes on Mick and his poor coaching decisions. It is what it is and it's behind us now. We have a talented team, it's the reason why people ranked us in the top 25 before the season started. It's the reason why expectations were high and it's the reason why people were so angry about how we played to start the year.

Take this quote from Cash in the paper today and it tells you everything you need to know about what was happening before and what is happening now....

As Wright put it, Mick Cronin “is letting us do what he recruited us for.”

Glad to see you finally give mick the credit he deserves ucbearcats.

That was the fastest 180 I've ever seen.

All aboard the mick bandwagon!

I think this was the most frustrating thing for me. It just made me wonder, what exactly this team was doing in the off season to prepare? Coaches and players included. The uptempo offense should have been implemented day 1 of practice

It took a fight to get this team in the right direction and I hope it continues to improve

It took 8 games before they made changes. Not sure if that's good response time or not.
Never the less, it is nice to see the team improve. I think Yancy will thrive in this offense, I think he'll do fine in whatever offense they run. He's simply a very good basketball player. In fact, if he has to find more creative ways to get his points in, he may improve and play more inspired; as the rest of the team has.

Next year's team should be interesting, you have tremendous athletic ability in Gaines, Jackson, Ellis, Thomas and Davis, you have shooters in Guyn, Sanders and Kilpatrick, and then you still have Wright and Parker on top of that.
We need to make a run these next couple years.

Get a life, you're the worst

I was complimenting you on your 180 and you attack me for it??! I'm just amazed you went from wishing his murder to man crush in a week

I'm not that old nor am I ralph. Swing and a miss

Mick and the team faced adversity this and they couldn't have responded better. I think Mick has grown more as a coach this season then any other season.

I think it boils down to he had to run that slow boring brand of basketball when he came in because he didn't have the athletes and his point guard his first four years was Deonta Vaughn who in no way shape or form could run an uptempo offense. He's obviously recruited guys to run uptempo offense as Cash even pointed out, but I think even last year with so many seniors and two juniors starting that they were used to the slower style so he stuck with it. I don't think he had the confidence in his players to adapt to a new style. My guess is that was his logic this year and with Yancy being a senior he was hoping he would just be a beast and dominate. His hand was forced to adjust and thanfully he did. These last two games have been fun to watch and I'm intrigued to see how it translates to the Big East. Our defense, while we have created turnovers, has gone out the window. The guards of the Big East will not be as sloppy as these past two opponents and we won't continue to shoot over 60%. I fully expect our opponents to approach 90 points a game in the Big East. Whether you're running fast or slow, your opponent still gets the ball the same amount of times you do. At the end of the day we just need to outscore our opponents. So win 90-88 instead of 60-58.

I think he said, "We only made 15 threes. That's 45 points." Definitely saying we scored 101 so a lot of points came inside that line. I chuckled when I heard that.

it all comes down to yancy. also him trying to run a hugs type team to make fans happy didnt work. we took yancy because he was considered a must have top 30 recruit or so so we been runnin our offense thru him since. this is the offense he has been recruiting to run starting next year we hd take gates cincy guy it just hasnt worked well it has but were tough

this hole cronin didnt run this offense cause hes a bad coach is just not true. every basketball mind in country would run there offense thru gates

Thats fine. But you have to surround him with shooters. It does no good to run an offense like that when you dont have a guy or guys to spread the defense on a consistent bases

I'm just glad Mick has been reading my posts and has decided to agree with me on the style of offense.

To all of you who bitched at me about the Presbterian game when we scored 54 and you blamed it on the defense. I hear no complaints now about teams scoring in the 60's but UC still winning :D

Well then Ralph is you. You obviously have multiple personalities and should learn to embrace them. The first step to treatment is always recognition of the problem lol.
