Well folks, It's the best time of the year. NHL playoffs are upon us. There is nothing like them, the intensity is insane. Overtime in hockey playoffs can't be touched by anything else. If you haven't watched playoff hockey, I suggest you try and find some time to do so. Imagine the USA v Canada games in the Olympics.

Games tonight:
Pitt v Ottowa on VS. @ 7:00

New Jersey at Philly @ 7:30

Det. at Phoenix @ 10:00 on VS.

San Jose vs. Avalanche @10:30.

Get ready, because the best thing in sports is about to begin.

Very true, and I think that hockey might be the best sport to watch with HD. It could be that HD just makes watching hockey that much easier for the casual fan too.

There is no better sport than hockey IMO!! I am a die hard Wings fan and am pumped they are playing their best hockey right now. I wish people would give it a chance because I think they would like what they see. It is a great sport!!

Be nice if Espn showed some hockey once in awhile.

They low-balled the NHL in the last negotiation and thought they were calling the NHL's bluff that they had another option. Versus paid a lot of money for the NHL.

I thought Versus was a PJ album. A pro team needs to do better than that. They should have taken the exposure, instead of the moolah. (and this also applies to a person I know) :)

I have said this from day one but my understanding is that the ESPN offer was so ridiculous the league viewed it as a slap in the face.

I believe your correct JasonS. ESPN thought they could get away with it, it was a joke of an offer and now Vs. is doing quite well with NHL. After the first year where vs. was getting the hang of things, they have only gotten better. Now, a move that I would love would be to have games on USA network. I may be wrong, but I believe that USA is owned by NBC, who also owns the rights to so many hockey games a year. I believe that USA network could do a similar deal as TNT has with the NBA.

I for one, hope they don't go back to ESPN, unless ESPN makes an offer they simply can not refuse.

As for tonights games, classic playoff atmosphere in all of them. All one goal games, with many chances in the final minute. The Redwings one was a good one. Not sure what happened, but the wings dominated the first period, then it seemed like it was coyotes the rest of the game. I believe there was a little scuffle at the end of the game? I think this series could be a great one, there was a ton of physical play.

Loved the ending to the Colorodo game. Kind of cheering for Avalanche now.

Pitt did not look very good tonight, and I wouldn't be surprised if they lost this series. Haven't been playing well all year. As for the flyers game, didn't catch any of it but I think the flyers could pull of the upset. I think marty is just a little too old to keep his teams in it, and it showed in the Olympics. He's not what he used to be.

Great first night of the playoffs!

The only time I watch versus was for "Shark Hunters II: East vs West" and that was cancelled 4 years ago. I couldn't even tell you if I get the versus channel anymore. Hockey is very similiar to Canada. It thinks it can hang with the big dogs, it can't. Canada is USA's little brother, much like hockey is football and basketball's little brother. It was created by Canadians for Canadians. First of all, its on ice. Not counting Alaska, a very small amount of water in the USA is frozen enough to skate on outside, and for Canada, eh? Aboot, 360 days a year. It has to be played in doors with the lights on, why? Cause Canucks are afraid of the dark. Hockey is the sport your little brother or the goofy kid down the street that ate paste makes up tailored to his skills and you have no interest in and your mom makes you play. The USA's best athletes play football and basketball, Canada's? hockey. Our 4th rate athletes can play with Canada's top rate athletes, as proven in this year's olympics. The most recognizable NHL analyst? Barry Melrose. His haircut has been outdated for 20 years. The mullet. What do you think, Wayne?

ImmortalClown--The only question I ask is: What sport is played outdoors in the dark? While I agree the best athletes might not be playing hockey in USA--its more likely because USA is consistantly voting Hockey as the 2nd hardest sport to play (Behind boxing) and that scares many people away from it. Any clown can shoot hoops and toss a football! play a mans sport why dont you.
