I was not surprised that soccer was coming to Cincinnati, but I am surprised it was going to be played at Nippert. Hopefully, UC is being paid well, because I hate to see the surface have 9 zillion lines/decals all over it.

Yeah I'm hoping the soccer season doesn't coincide with football and they can completely repaint the field between seasons. I'd hate to have to see soccer lines on our field year round. With that said, kudos to UC for finding a way to generate revenue. Hopefully all money made will go into the athletic department. I'm curious to what kind of deal was reached and exactly how much money UC stands to benefit.

It's been a while since I lived in or near Cincy but doesn't the team still use Nippert for practice (except when weather dictates use of the bubble)? I would think this would have to be a spring or summer league for soccer, right?

The USL season I believe runs from March-September with playoffs going into October, but don't quote me on that. So the season could barely overlap. But with UC being the obvious owner and operator of Nippert and the soccer team just a rentor, UC would have first right at playing on Nippert. Also, temporary lines on turf fields are easy to put down and remove when need be. I don't think UC would make this deal if it would jeopardize anything to do with Nippert.

The article on gobearcats said the soccer season runs March to September. Didn't go into any further details.

So we can't properly support an MLB, NFL or college football/basketball program but adding a soccer team will work out??

Huh?

The Reds are currently in the top half of attendance in MLB despite having a shit season.

The Bengals were 93% full last year accross the entirety of the season.

And the city has two college basketball teams in the top 50 in attendance.

Looks to me like the city does a pretty good job of supporting teams across the board.

But don't let me get facts in the way of a good pout sesh...

Top half? LMAO! The Reds haven't been higher than #12 in attendance (this season) since 2000. Not to mention there are still 27 more home games left that will draw flies and drop that ranking. I thought this was a baseball town!

Bengals cannot even sell out? Haven't they made the playoffs like 3 or 4 years in a row. Wow, such a great accomplishment.

Cincinnati has made 5 straight NCAA tournaments yet cannot even average 10k for the season? EMBARRASSING!

The only program that is properly supported in the city is Xavier.

You've proved your point. You would rather complain about UC than be a fan and enjoy the games. Good for you.

Where did you get that idea? I simply expose the truths NO OTHER UC fans are willing to admit. Funny how xlax didn't add anything about the football fan support in his post...

Get over it...

I love the way Nippert looks after the renovation. I've seen it in person a few days ago (as much as I could) and its impressive. But....does anyone else feel like they should continue the upper concourse?! Meaning they should go above the student section and basically connect with the new suites. I hate that break which the choir building gives. Nippert would look really intimidating with the upper bowl connected. Not to mention add more seating and look like a true Power 5 stadium.

Sure we could absolutely do that. The problem is money and demand for tickets. We are already struggling enough to sellout as is, if we had another 10,000+ seats demand will absolutely plummet. Plus who's gonna pay for the renovation?

40,000 is enough for now, I have full confidence that should we suddenly need a 50 or 60,000 seat stadium that we could and would expand the upper decks. At this point in time it isn't necessary and would just leave empty seats. Short of joining the Big Ten or SEC I can't foresee ever having that high a demand for tickets here. Unless the Bengals left town maybe. Personally I like the backdrop of the old building. It's nostalgic, it's unique and it reminds you that you're on campus.

I think it will be great for the university. I checked on Louisville and apparently the Louisville team plays in Bats stadium. UL is not involved at all. This might be a quick way for the university to pick up some extra money for the athletic dept via tickets, rent and concessions as well as parking.

Anyone going to the open house on Thursday 9/3/15???
