getting the turnovers and not scoring any points off them of late. I don't know why when we get those defensive stops and then settle for jumpers...

Tuck Fim Higgins!
We won an afternoon game, against Villanova no less!
Nice to see we avoided the trap game.

Second game in a row the Bearcats showed guts and toughness and finished aainst a red hot team. Villanova was shooting 30% from 3 prior to this game. Love the way this team took the Wildcats best shot and won the game.

Agreed Jeff, was talking about that today. We have taken best punches from Georgetown away and Nova at home and survived by grinding out an old school victory.

Jay Wright's quotes:

“I think that we played a full game in the BIG EAST. Cincinnati made the plays down the stretch. Their guards were great down the stretch. They made perfect decisions, finished plays and made free throws. It was a tough BIG EAST game where they made plays down the stretch and we didn’t.”

“Their guards were outstanding. They really were. The balance of their guards; they spread it out. And, it keeps them fresh. They isolate different guys. They share the ball with each other. They are very impressive.”

“I think that whole situation with Xavier, I think after it happened, they handled it very well. I think like most things in life, when you do the right thing it works out for you in the end. They handled it well and they played a lot without (senior forward) Yancy Gates. And, they got a lot better. They recognized how good their perimeter guys were and they brought Yancy back. He’s the perfect complement to those guys. Every time you over extend those guys, you just go right inside. If Yancy’s man helps on one of the drives, if they miss, which doesn’t happen often, he goes up and taps it in or dunks it. It’s a great compliment. They’ve got a really great team.”

They did a great job of double teaming Wayns and Cheek whenever they touched the ball in the second half. It forced other players to make plays and they didn't. Those two killed us in the first half. Cheek all but disappeared in the second half and while Wayns still was able to score he had to earn the points.

The refs sure did their part to keep Villanova in the game down the stretch for the comeback. Every possesion they put the ball on the floor they got the call. Three very weak hand check calls to put them on the line for two shots in the final two minutes is embarrassing. Why Wayns pulled up for a quick three when down four is beyond me. He had just gotten two calls and four made free throws by driving in the previous two possessions. The two teams combined for 49 free throws attempted, I thought the Big East liked to pride itself on good officiating and letting the players decide it on the court.
