ESPN’s Eamonn Brennan writes that “Chicago’s politics have a well-deserved reputation for being brutally cutthroat, if not downright corrupt. Apparently college hoops is no different” as new DePaul coach Oliver Purnell is Already Struggling with the Local (ESPN) landscape as Simeon’s Robert Smith and Morgan Park’s Nick Irvin, two of the major power brokers in Chicago high school basketball, are publicly cutting ties over Purnell’s choice of assistant coaches.

Looks like O.P. has his work cut out for him...........

- stuff like this is why the "fire Mick" crowd scares me. it's easier to completely blow a hire than to nail a hire.

- within 2 minutes of reading this, I thought of two better and cheaper options: Reggie Theus and Mike Mullens(sp?). do coaching exploration commissions even watch basketball?

- I don't know if it'd be considered a lateral move for him, but Tracy Webster would look good, [Chalie Boy]good, good, gooooooooood on my momma, on my hood[/Chalie Boy] as our #1 assistant.

I guess the choices they wanted him to make were themselves.

I agree. Did you see some of the hires this year? Ugly.

Wake Forest took a guy who was (below) at Colorado
2007-2008 Colorado 12-20 3-13 12th
2008-2009 Colorado 9-22 1-15 12th
2009-2010 Colorado 15-16 6-10 8th

Yeah that was a horrible hire by Wake Forest. If I remember correctly, the AD was friends with that coach, but I could be mistaken. Either way, that was a real head scratcher.
