This idea has been batted around for some time now, but it looks like it’s going to come to fruition. North Carolina and Michigan State are finalizing a deal to play each other next Veteran’s Day (November 11) on an aircraft carrier in San Diego Harbor. At first, we wondered why an eastern team and a midwestern team would travel so far to play when they have perfectly good aircraft carriers in their half of the country (Norfolk, Virginia, for example). And then we realized that the game will occur in November, and well, the game will be outside. San Diego’s rather predictable weather makes for a safer bet, and a deal should be announced soon for what will make for a rather interesting gimmick game. Let’s just hope that they properly adjust for the wind coming in off the water.

If this should be moved to huggins in- thats fine. Just thought more talk about it here in the basketball forum.---check the last sentence of the paragraph..oh boy.

Will certainly make scoring more of a challenge... will this be played during the day or under lights at night?... sun could be a factor, though I'm guessing it would be an evening game...

I am assuming this would be prime time. Maybe 6 or 7 PM local time.

The game would be played inside the carrier, not on the flight deck. Also the ship will be anchored in port, it will not be at sea.

Being that's it's in early November, is this a exhibition game or does this actually count?

If it counts, this is (Like LL said) a terrible idea. From what I read, it is outside and that's why they're playing in San Diego. (Ralph, where are you hearing differently?)

Anybody that's played knows that playing outside is almost like a completely different sport. The wind can of course be a nightmare, the background makes shooting completely different, the lighting f#cks you up, if they playing on cement, the bounce of ball can be less consistent.

It may turn into a game of layups. Here's to hoping MSU doesn't have 8 losses next year at this time, and rationalizes their ranking by blaming 20 mile wind gusts in a game.

Stupid idea. Give the troops free tickets and bring them to shore to watch indoors. Hell, give them free beer and food, and you'd still probably save money. Otherwise, contact And-1 and ask those guys to put on an exhibition outside.
