Jacob, this 46 page thread is like your shrine. You fought hard for Cobb to start and for the team to start pushing the pace. You were battered and bruised midway through the thread. Waite was hitting you with left and right hooks and I thought you were going to fold. But, your stamina pulled you through and you earned the right to post these stats and gloat a little bit. With Cobb starting and the pace a little faster, we're generally scoring a lot more points, our margin of victory seems to be getting a lot better, and we're on a nice winning streak at a time when it counts! Congratulations on keeping this thread alive long enough so you could enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Haha thanks...but let's be real...I was late to the party on the Cobb starting thing compared to many others on the board. Also, Doogle, waterhead, Longhaul, bulldog and others were pushing for similar things and providing great stats to back up the claims. I'm just thrilled about the way we are playing. There seems to be a ton of energy surrounding the program right now and it's a beautiful thing. I feel sorry for the teams in our path, bc they're about to get flattened. It is so hard to nail the timing in college basketball, but we truly are playing our best...and last time that happened at this point in the season we were in the Sweet 16. Let's keep it going!

I'm just glad LD finally made the change. They have played so much better ever since. Hats off to KJ for accepting the change and even playing better for most of it.

It might have even taken some pressure off of KJ and allowed him to relax a little bit.

Average # of possessions before the 2nd Houston game = 60.5. Average # of possessions the last 5 games = 59.2 (according to kenpom).

Is there a way to break it down by half? Bc it is undeniable that we've been getting out of the gate quicker. And we've been up by 15-20 a lot in the 2nd half of these games. Could explain those #s.

I'm honestly not really sure. But it would be hard to imagine we could play any slower than we used to in the 2nd half of games that we were winning (note that the first 26 game #'s are boosted a bit by a double OT game and an OT game.)

That's less possessions than kenpom gives them credit for, is another site more accurate?

I didn't include the decimals, simply rounded up or down.

Got my info here --> LINK

Very interesting. I also saw that Cobb is +66 in the last 4 games and our margin of victory in that span is +60. He is also averaging 29 minutes per game, bringing his season average to 23.5 now. We just seem to be at a higher level with him on the floor. We've gone up 18-8, 25-6, 25-13, and 21-4 our last 4 games. Whatever we decide the reasoning is, one of my main gripes (always bring in single digits in the first 10 minutes) seems to have been corrected.

We have finally started playing in the first half. All year long they had come out slow and sloppy. I mean before the last 5 games how many times did we play well in the 1st and 2nd half, maybe 3?

Waterhead, we're at 68.2% from Ellis and Clark combined at the line. You think they can bump that up in the postseason? It'll be close.

Haha! I think we were looking good until recently when Ellis started missing. Either way I am happy with that number overall from our bigs. JJ shot about 50% on his career. Hovering around 70% between the two is decent

Cobb is guard that leads us to sweet 16

There is a significant drop off at the guard position past Cobb and Troy in my opinion. Cobb can ball handle, shoot and rebound well for his position. He needs to be out there as much as possible come tournament time.

to's/possession

This is the stat that is the reason the Bearcats are not in the top 25 imho. I knew we were bad - I had no idea just how pathetic. UC is number 302 in the country in turnovers/possession. UC turns the ball over an astounding 20.7% of possessions. That's amazing, and the difference in a number of losses, I'm sure.

Improving this, just to last year's sub 17% mark, would go a long way towards establishing an elite level of play.

And it isn't like it's 1 guy. It's the entire freaking team. Ellis, Caupain, Johnson, and Shaq all have TOrate above 23%. DeBerry is at 21.6%. Clark, Cobb, and Sanders are the only ones under 20%.

To compare, last year SK was 13.3%, Jackson 18.3%, Rubles 18.5%, Shaq 16.7%, Johnson 16%, Sanders 10.3%. Caupain/Guyn were the only players on the roster that had any PT that were over 20%.
