Does anyone else think Rubles will make first second or third team big east? I think he will start in big east play with jackson coming off the bench for energy and such which will give him enough playing time to do it

Rubles reminds me of Terrace Williams. Without a doubt with increased minutes his production should go thru roof

I think JJ deserves the start because of time served as a Bearcat but I also like the idea of him being our 6th man A LOT! I wouldn't mind seeing JJ getting some minutes at the 5 either with Rubles in the game. JJ may get pushed around a bit down low but he's active and can block shots...and he's definitely our best rebounder.

At this point I would like to see JJ, Rubles and Mooj getting about 25 minutes in big games. Our starting guards 30+. Nyarcuk, Guyn, and Davis about 10. After that whoever is stepping up or fits the scheme that week.

So far, I see no reason to overanalyze playing time. It's only 2 games against cupcakes, but I like the rotations. I think it's well thought out.

PG - Wright, Guyn
SG - S K, JDIII
SF - Parker, Sanders
PF - Jackson, Rubles
C - Mbodj, Nyarsuk

Thomas, Gaines.

And if S K goes pro, other than Jackson returning, all of the backups will be your starters next season. Mbodj, Wright, and Parker all graduate, and S K may go pro.

Rubles has a slow and low shot that he will have trouble getting off when he faces Big East competition.

People said same thing about SK, and it didn't seem to stop him. This kid has the "it" factor, or a very good feel for the game. He is solid across the board, so even if his shot isn't falling, he can still be a factor. 2nd or 3rd team BE is possible, but I think 6th man of year in the BE is more likely. Who knows, he could possibly get both. Really like his all-around game, he is like that missing piece of the puzzle that I think could really spark us at times this year. Microwave the third, anyone? (referring to George Jackson's calling SK "Microwave Jr.")

I've said the same thing about him. Seems to be his only drawback at this point. I'm guessing he will only shoot from deep when left open. Teams that play tight defense might take his shot away, but he still has value with his playmaking ability and his basketball smarts. He'll be a tough guy for teams to defend assuming your top two defenders go to Cash and Kilpatrick and possibly third to Parker. He seems to be overmatched for your typical threes and fours out there. This team is going to fun to watch this year. And speaking of Cash, his shot has been deadly when his feet are set and not coming off the dribble (basically when he's not forcing his shot). Between him and Kilpatrick, Parker, Rubles and Jackson will have a field day feeding them for open looks.

The difference between pretty good and great teams is the great teams have play making wings. The lack of a true "3" has been my only criticism of Mick the last 2/3 years. Think if we had Rubles in that O$U game, no one could cover DeShaun Thomas who is a similar type of player (play making 3 man).

Agreed, with how stagnant our offense has been the past few years, we need someone who can create when the 3s aren't dropping that specific day.

No one said SK had a slow shot...either way Rubles has impressed me so far. It will be interesting to see how his outside shot continues. If he is a threat to hit from the outside it will open up the game for him. But if he struggles than teams will be able to guard him much easier. I'm not worried about him having a slow shot because he isn't a designated shooter like SK is. If Titus is shooting a 3 it should mean he has a pretty open look.

I like Rubles game as well and am glad we have a wing that can shoot and slash. I don't think we should get ahead of ourselves yet. We haven't seen him play against decent competition yet, although I think that he will more than hold his own.

One great thing about Rubles game is his exaggerated ball fake. If his outside shot is falling that shot fake is hard not to go for, and will open up many lanes for driving to hoop.

I could see Rubles on a BEast team but logic tells me that Cincy never gets any respect, in that case I say best case scenario is 3rd team.

Yeah, but there were plenty of critics of his shooting motion and how he is unconventional with his set shot. I meant same types of things. My point is, natural playmakers will make plays. Rubles will find ways to hit enough jumpers to keep defenders honest.

He also has a great pump fake. So if an opponent thinks they block his shot because of the slow release, he can go around them. And if they play off him because they are afraid of the fake, he will have more space to shoot.

I get the impression that Mick wants to have 2 bigs on the floor most of the time, despite the offense they're running. I like the idea of Rubles as 6th man, mostly because our 2nd team needs a go-to guy when the starters rest. I think we have plenty of minutes to go around for him to get 20+ minutes without even starting.

Doesn't matter. He has a pump fake that works every time and he knows how to use it.

Yah...and he's 6'7" playing on the perimeter. I would like to know who is going to be guarding him face up on the perimeter...because Rubles is capable of getting past people. It's going to take a unique defender (long AND atheletic) to be effective against him (especially blocking his outside shots).

Like others have already said...it's not like he's going to be looking to pump threes all day...he's going to take them when he can get them. His shot on the move does not appear to be slow. His three pointers I would refer to more as "calculated". JD3 also has a "calculated" shot...and I would be much more concerned with him getting off shots in beast play than I would Rubles.

Geez. I like what Rubles brings to the game too. But it's only 2 games against cupcakes people.

I agree it's much too early to be talking about which all star team Rubles is going to make...but in fairness we have played 4 cupcakes so far and all of our players have had that chance. Rubles has produced very nicely (and consistently in all) and some players haven't faired quite as well. I would expect Rubles will find it tougher to play in the Beast...but so will the other players who have "struggled" so far.

I don't think it's too early to debate about what Rubles might mean to this team. Especially with the raving reviews from the coach. There are many things which are noticeable even as we watch cupcake games. So far (even though it's early) Rubles has exceeded my expectations.

I understand tempering expectations...but objectively I think many of us like what we have seen so far. It's possible we have been seeing a stretch of play that will not continue...or we could see more improvement as he recieves coaching at a slightly higher level than he is use to. I am optimistic that he seems well adapted to the pace of play already...especially if we contrast that with a guy with a similar skill set in Thomas who hasn't quite figured it out just yet.

What I love about Rubles is his abilty to affect the game in multiple ways. Scoring, passing, defense, rebounding. I would start him and have Jackson come off he bench due to his propensity to turn the ball over and foul. I love how Jackson is rebounding though so far. I can see Cash, SK, JP, Jackson and Rubles all on the court in certain situation. Against a St. Johns for example where there is no true post guy.

What I like about that scenario is if you take out JP and put in Mooj...you just went from small and atheletic to long and atheletic and depending on the opponent I think this is going to be very valuable...whether it's on O or D.
