"Outside the scope of development work, the consortium is working with the Short Vine Business Association to organize block parties that will coincide with University of Cincinnati's home football games. As part of the plan, the street is expected to be blocked off to traffic and opened to fans and tailgaters before each game."

Glad to see some progress being made. Now hopefully they follow through...

Sounds like a good thing to me. Half of the excitement of football for most people is the tailgating. UC really needs to develop a good tailgating scene and the fans will continue to go down to game even when their not 12-0. The past couple of years I have been surprised to see the number of tailgaters down there. I think UC has done a great job in all aspects of their football program in creating an environment where people want to go to games based on where they were five years ago. Now me, I'm a die-hard and go down to see the game, but football to the casual fan is an event of drinking and socializing. Make Saturday in Clifton the party to be at and they will have no trouble selling tickets as long as they stay competitive.

This is great news. I don't know if any of you guys went out to Oklahoma a couple years ago but this is exactly what they do on game days. They block of streets on the (north?) side of campus and they have beer and food and merchandise vendors set up as well as a concert after the game. People can also go in and out of the restaurants all along there. People who tailgate at the adjacent lots always take some time to walk through there so there's always a lot of people moving through.

This is a great idea for gamedays since right now the tailgating is so fragmented at UC and will be a good way to bring more people together in a bigger area and should be a boost for Short Vine businesses as well. As was said casual fans love to tailgate and if this becomes the place to be even more people are going to want to come to Clifton on gamedays. The fact that they are also doing some things to revitalize Short Vine is also great news.
