I saw this on Mo's blog this morning. If you read the original piece by SI you know that they basically tooted their own horn about how easy it is to get all this information and how inexcusable it is that the Universities didn't do the "proper" background checks. The problem? Apparantly SI didn't do their due diligence either. This is unacceptable and I hope they get sued. They essentially sensationalized their piece to sell magazines/get website hits at the expense of this young man. Who knows if they did that to any other kids in that article either? It is a shame and irresponsible journalism.

I'll be honest- I knew nothing about this situation before the original article came out. But if that information is true and SI failed to go beyond the surface with their investigation they should be ashamed of themselves for attacking (and slandering) a young man.

As the OK St. coach said- I'm a man, Im 40. :D

I appreciate the exposure brought to SI, but the author makes himself out as an idiot by implying that the only reason for producing the article was to keep African Americans out of college. Grasping at straws on that one......and the fact that that is the motive of the entire story seems hysterical at best.

I agree that he really played the race card there which was unneccesary. I don't think SI was being racist in what they were doing. I do think they are guilty of sensationalism and possibly even slander. I think the article written by Darling's HS Coach would have been more effective had he stopped at the point he was arguing facts that SI either overlooked or simply ignored.

Agreed.

How did this thing end up, or has it?
