Next year. What do you guys think?

Sources told CBSSports.com, the reason the Big East decided to go beyond 12 football members is because the league is preparing for the possibility it will lose Louisville if the Big 12 decides to expand by at least another team.

Multiple sources have told CBSSports.com that Louisville is the consensus choice for the Big 12’s 11th member, if the league expands, and that the Cardinals would accept an invitation to the Big 12

Love it for basketball, in football I'm not sure how this strengthens the conference. I realize the pickings are slim for potential expansion candidates, I'm just not a huge fan of expanding for expanding sakes.

I agree. This is a great pickup for basketball and could bring about some fun matchups. I feel the same about Memphis.

For football, this is realistically just about the best the Big East can do. Other BCS conference teams aren't looking to jump ship to join.

Don't like this. Temple is the definition of a mid major in football, just like memphis. Also the big east already booted temple once for being a waste. This weakens the league dramatically

I know I am barking up the wrong tree but I really hope they look at Xavier.

Huh? Conference expansion is about FOOTBALL. XU quit playing D1 football after the 1973 season. The Big East will not add basketball only schools.

Temple being added, if it happens, is due to the football teams needing a game next season. UC and the other members lost 2 games for 2012, TCU and WVU, and finding replacements at this late date is not easy.

This will also allow for a Football championship game for the 2013 season as there will be 12 football schools. Navy will not be joining until 2015 at which time it will be a baker's dozen football conference.

However, Villanova may be able to black ball Temple, not wanting to share the Philly market.

On the other hand, Rick Pitino has been lobbying hard for the inclusion of Temple.

Agreed. Xavier will never get a look because we don't need a non-football school. Some may say this is a weak pickup, but at this point of the game, the Big East had to pick up another school and I really don't see a better option. I like it. I'd still go to the Big 12 in a heartbeat, but I think the Big East has done a solid job of salvaging the conference.

You might go to the Big 12 but UC will not. Mick Cronin stated on his radio show Monday that it was UC President Greg Williams who saved the Big East. The guy that saved it is not going to leave it.

Cincinnati was the definition of mid major in football when it joined the Big East in 2005.

So when the dust settles in the end we are looking at this?...

Football (12)

UC
Uconn
USF
Rutg
Boise
UCF
SMU
Hou
Navy
Memph
Temp
SDSU

Basketball (17)

Nova
Prov
Dep
Hou
UCF
Memph
Temp
SMU

We lose Syr, Lou, WV, and Pitt.

We could say that Boise replaced either WV or Pitt in football. One more team will have to step up and fill the other void. We didn't lose much football with UL and SYR. All in all I think we will make up for the loss (and then some) with quantity. Judging on recent success for certain teams we may have come out on top.

As for BB we lose 4 bigtime teams and we gain 2. I am fine with that since the BE was an absolute gauntlet anyway. But since the 4 teams we lost were split into two conferences we don't lose much power to either of those conferences (since we added 2). Our schedule and conference gets slightly easier but remains one of if not the best in the country.

It could have been much worse:)

Obviously this is considering UL is gone to Big 12

I would not be so quick on pulling the trigger on Louisville going to the Big 12. After all, it was Rick Pitino who was doing all the pushing to get Temple in the Big East.
