Toledo Game Thread

Can Butch Jones recruit a real quarterback? None of this Legaux or Luallen garbage. I cringe every time Legaux tries to throw the ball.

Defense and special teams do not look prepared for the speed of Toledo. Running by the ball carrier and not containing the play.

I understand Munchie got dinged up, but if he's not going to run the ball, get him the fuck out of the game.

A receiver like Thompkins should have 40 receptions at this point. It's time to legaux of legaux.

Embarrassing loss, Munchie looks worse every game. I don't hang this completely on Munchie, but that horrible pick six looms large and this offense is a fluid as peanut butter sometimes with him in there. We throw away half of our offensive possessions. Our defense still gives up too many yards but neither TD given up was on them. I don't care if Toledo has talent and we were on the road. We lost to a MAC school. Better than a conference loss in the grand scheme of things, but I think our best hope of getting to a BCS bowl this year was a three-way tie with us Louisville and Rutgers and this loss assures us we won't have the highest BCS. We pretty much need to run the table to make a BCS game and after last nights performance I don't see that happening.

At this point, if we somehow got to a bcs game, this team would get rocked by even the ACC champion. Still plenty of football left so hopefully they can put it together. The only thing this loss did, besides hurt our pride, is take us out of national championship contention. And since that was never going to happen anyway, this loss doesn't hurt us at all. BCS bowl berth is still within reach.

I agree, my point was this loss hurts in the rankings in a tie situation.

In a tie where head-to-head can't be a tie-breaker, the team ranked highest gets the nod. I honestly think there's no way we go to Louisville this Friday and pull out a win (although I'll be there in person to root them on). Their defense is tough and I think they'll have a field day at home on national TV vs. Munchie. I think getting Rutgers at home is good and is winnable. In my scenario where we lose to Louisville and then beat Rutgers we could've had the edge because our loss would've been the earliest of the three and thus helped us in the rankings. Losing to Toledo I think assures of we don't sniff the rankings again, again assuming a loss to Louisville. Assuming we don't pick up another loss, for us to win the Big East and go to a BCS game is for Rutgers to beat Louisville and have a three-way tie or for Louisville to lose another game on top of Rutgers, which I don't see happening. Obviously anything can happen, we could beat Louisville this Friday, Louisville could lose to UConn or Temple, we could lose four Big East games and this all be a moot point.

The issue with Munchie is clear. He's a great asset with his legs either running the ball or extending the pass plays. He's a liability when throwing the football. Kenbrell Thompkins is a talented receiver but some of those passes last night were no where near the target. We can live with the poor throwing - to an extent. What happened last night though, happened to Ohio State who has Braxton Miller. When you have a mobile quarterback, who relies on and the team relies on - is structured around, and that quarterback gets dinged up - even if still in the game - the threat of the run is gone. Without Munchie running (he got dinged on a play and the commentators pointed out later that his running was severely reduced - he's just a quarterback with a bad arm.

This Toledo team was well coached.

Hold your heads high Bearcat fans, not too many people can beat a Mount Union coached team

Another reason not to have a running quarterback like Legaux - when he scrambles, the team gets a bunch of holding penalties.
