I'm guessing UC isn't wearing Red. Has there been a color decided upon yet?

As long as they keep playing on days that don't conflict with the NCAA's, I'll be there.

Before I say anything I should say I am a XU fan so naturally I hate both teams with all my heart and all of you for that matter. That said UC fans dont care about the NIT because they can still remember a time when UC was good and therefore dont care about some meaningless tournament like the NIT. On the other hand Dayton has a little brother syndrom for a Xavier team that has a claim to fame of only making the elite 8. Therefore winning games in the NIT is a big deal to them and they will make the drive down filling the place up a little bit. I will take over 8k for this factor.

I'll be there with 7 others......................and only 1 Flyer fan. I consider that a success within itself.

I'll be in a group of 3. 2 for the Cats and 1 for Dayton. I imagine there will be a lot of mixed groups in attendance. Doesn't that kind of make it that much more fun? UD is an interesting rival to have, because they're close enough to be a rival, but have a hatred for Xavier that we have to respect. I hope we draw more than 8,000 for this. That crowd the other night was embarrassing. At least I got the best seats I've ever sat in for it and could be seen on TV the entire night.

The crowd will definately be interesting. I agree that it could be a 50/50 split. UD message boards were very supportive of trying to fill FTA with Flyers fans. They travel well, so I expect to see lots of UD fans.

Also, I'm assuming we're wearing Black or White? I do not want to rock UD colors, so hopefully this had been made known.

I too will be in some of the best seats that my a$$ has even been in at FTA. A few rows from the floor ain't bad at all....

UC came back late in the 2nd half, let's see if they can continue their surge.

Senior guard Deonta Vaughn finished his University of Cincinnati career Monday night much the same way he started it – as the only consistent scoring threat on the floor for the Bearcats.

Vaughn scored a season-high 28 points to pass Danny Fortson for third place on UC’s career scoring list, but the Bearcats still fell to Dayton 81-66 in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament before 6,479 fans at Fifth Third Arena.

UC overcame most of a 17-point first-half deficit but was never able to get over the hump, finishing its fourth season under coach Mick Cronin with a 19-16 record.

UC cut a five-point halftime deficit to one on Ibrahima Thomas’ dunk early in the second half.

The Bearcats went cold after that, missing five of their next six shots and the Flyers took advantage by pushing their lead back to seven, at 52-45, with 12:51 remaining.

UC came back to trim deficit to two on a Vaughn trey with 11:03 remaining. Dayton then went on an 11-3 run to take a 63-53 lead with 5:04 remaining.

“I thought we came out as flat as we could come out,” Cronin said. “We dug too deep of a hole. We did a great job getting ourselves back in the game but you can’t turn it on and off like a like switch.

“It was the same story again. Once we got close we couldn’t make a shot. We just kept missing open shot after open shot.”

The Bearcats were outscored, 29-16, over the final 11:03.

Gates 1-5, 2 pts, 4 rbd. Was there anyone else less effective than he on the floor?
Thomas 4-5, 8 pts, 9 rbd. Had moments
Vaughn 6-18, 28 pts, 6 rbd. Looked like DV of old.
Lance 5-11, 13 pts, 6 rbd. Half his shots weren't quality shots.
Cash 1-6, 4 pts, 2 asst. Played out of control more than not.
Davis 0-3. Bishop not available really hurt last nite.
Wilks 1-6. Like Lance, forced some shots.

“Well like I told the guys, I thought we came out as flat as we could come out. We dug too deep of a hole. We did a great job of getting back in the game. You can’t turn it on and off like a light switch. Jaquan Parker’s injury hurt us. I think Deonta and Cash got tired. Not having him hurt us. That being said, the same story again. We got close and couldn’t make a shot. We had some great defensive stops where we didn’t get the rebound. Our defensive rebounding wasn’t where it should have been. We had too many opportunities to knock it in, and we didn’t.”

On The Rebounding

“Lance alluded to it. I talked to the guys about it. I hadn’t really been a part of the NIT a lot. The teams that really want to be in it will be successful. Our guys wanted to be in it, but they didn’t know what they were in for. As a coaching staff, we were frustrated with our preparation in telling our guys how scrappy they are. If they struggle to score, they are dangerous because they do the little things. Their year has been what it has been because they have struggled to score. Yancy got two early fouls and couldn’t get it going. They made a lot of shots early on. At one time, they were 8-for-12 from three. I thought Jaquon being out hurt us. When you are trying to get over a hump, fatigue comes into play.”

On Respecting Opponent

“We are playing three freshmen, and Yancy is a second year with Thomas being a first year. We have to come back next year with the mentality of a team that shows up every night in their defense and maturity. When we show up with respect for our opponent, we are a different team. I think our guys respected them in the second half.”

On Building for Next Year

“I’ll meet individually with everyone when they get back from Spring Break. The biggest thing is to be able to get enough talent to score the basketball at the highest level. You have to be able to play hard enough at all times with consistent effort. If you can’t, then we can’t count on you to do that, and we’ll find other people that will. Winning teams are consistent with their effort. They don’t have ego, and we worked on those late in the season. Everyone put their ego in their pocket, and played with each other.”

First thing UC Assistant Coach Larry Davis said on the 700 WLW postgame last night..."Our guys came out with too much ego". Lance Stephenson said, "Oh yeah, we definitely underestimated them."
Mick mentioned UC came out "as flat as they could come out".
How does that happen when you are playing a rival, at home and playing to take another step towards New York? What exactly entitles UC to underestimate anyone or come out flat?
I was also struck by what UD coach Brian Gregory said in the Dayton Daily News, "We told the players this would be a test of their character and pride and how much the program meant to them," Gregory said.
It appears UC once again failed a test of their character and pride.

Bearcats Season Ends

The Cincinnati Bearcats season ended on Monday night in an 81-66 defeat against the Dayton Flyers. In the conclusion of the NIT, the same problems which played out during the course of the season marked the final game of it.

-- Yancy Gates never became the factor the Bearcats needed him to be with two points and four rebounds.

-- Cincinnati exited with a scoring drought so standard in their run to a 19-16 season. Following a 3-pointer by Deonta Vaughn, UC went eight minutes with only one field goal in a decisive second-half stretch. By the time the drought ended, for all intent and purpose, so had their season.

-- Vaughn, who spent the early moments of his career trying to carry his teammates on his back broke out the same move for old times sake in his final game wearing the UC red and black with 28 points. Only Lance Stephenson with 13 had more than six.

-- A UC fan base, which arrived with high hopes and rose to high decibel levels, departed with a rotten taste in its mouth hearing chants of "We are - UD!"

-- The team which never found any shooting touch from beyond the arc but rarely showed a hesitancy to hoist plenty of them up, did so one final time to its ultimate demise.

UC was 6 of 31 from 3-point range for 19 percent. They finished the year 279th in the country in 3-point shooting.

"Same story again," Mick Cronin said. "Once we got close, we couldn't make a shot."

Outside of Vaughn and Jaquon Parker, who left midway through with a hyper-extended knee, seven other UC players combined to go 0 for 13 from 3-point range.
