CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati is getting closer to naming its new athletic director. According to several sources, the school has interviewed four candidates.
Among those who have been interviewed are Missouri executive associate AD Whit Babcock, Duke deputy AD Stan Wilcox and Big East senior associate commissioner Nick Carparelli.
Babcock is in his fifth year at Missouri after working for five years as assistant AD and executive director of development at West Virginia. He also spent five years as an assistant for development at Auburn.
Wilcox has been a deputy AD since August 2008. He oversees Duke's football program, is a former Notre Dame basketball player and worked there for three years as deputy AD. He also spent 11 years as an associate commissioner and has worked as a legislative assistant at the NCAA.
Carparelli oversees football and marketing for the Big East.
Bob Arkeilpane, the interim athletic director at the University of Cincinnati, is the lowest paid among the athletic directors from Division I public universities in this area.
Arkeilpane makes a base salary of $171,958.50, which is the same salary he received as the deputy athletic director before former AD Mike Thomas left for Illinois.
Arkeilpane, who as deputy AD was the administrator in charge of men's basketball and football, also was eligible for additional bonuses totaling a maximum of $17,500 based on the performance of those two sports.
Ohio State's Gene Smith has total compensation of $1,058,546, followed by Kentucky's Mitch Barnhart at $655,050 and Miami's Brad Bates at $336,380.
