I admit I was skeptical about this team during the 7-1 streak. I didn't put much stock into beating Oklahoma, Chicago state, Arkansas Pine Bluff, Radford, and Wright State. I thought the wins vs Pitt at Pitt and ND were solid, but that both of those teams are down this year. I wanted to see how this team performed against a legit top 25 and NCAA tournament team...

I am a believer now. I believe in Mick Cronin. I believe in this team's defensively. I believe in the effort this team displays now. I still think they take way too many threes especially early in the shot clock but there is no doubt that things are much smoother offensively.

So I ask the question. Why not us? Why can't we win the Big East this year? Why can't we go on a huge run to close out the season

Looking at the schedule

Villanova is not good at all this year. We play them twice(2 wins)
At UConn and WVU will be tough(I'm saying 1-1 with a win over WVU)
Syracuse at HOME. I think we win that.
At Rutgers. Win
Depaul, St Johns, Providence, USF - All easy wins(Earlier St Johns game was a fluke)
Marquette twice (1-1)
Louisville at home - win

That would put us at 15-3 in the Big East and 25-6 overall for the regular season before the BE tourney. 3 losses in the BE should be right up or at the top. This would give us an extremely high seed in the NCAA tourney regardless of what happens in the BE tourney.

What do you guys think?

I believe in Mick Cronin and Tim Tebow.

The big east is down this year so anything is possible.

Maybe its just me, but I think syracuse is going to roll through the conf. They are very good.

My concern was how will they respond when the 3 ball is not falling

Last night was a big learning curve for this team. They werent hitting the 3 against a quailty team, made adjustments and came out on top. This will be valuable as they continue BE play.

Well i think that would be awsome! haha
But, we really just need to take things one step at a time, you said we beat syracuse. Even at home syracuse is the best team in the country, i think we match up well with them but in know means will that be an easy game, there will be a huge crowd for it though i can promise you that. I think 11-6 in the big east and a win in the conference tourney gets us into the tourney. If we do well enough to get in the tope four in the conference, then i think we get into the big dance. The scary thing about the big east is after syracuse anyone can beat anyone, so don't be suprised if we give a cupcake to a team like nova, or south florida or rutgers or providence...... that being said i think they go 12-5.

Syrscuse has so much depth and length and they rebound well. That is a game the Bearcats can't just bomb away. They will have to hit some 3's but they better take good shots or Sryacuse runs them off the floor.Frankly, I believe UC matches up with anybody in the conference well except them.

South Florida (But the Bearcats should win)will not be a give me nor will Rutgers, WVU, UConn, Louisville or Marquette. UC should beat Villanova twice and beat Providence and Depaul. I won't say with ease because I respect this conference too much and any team can bite you on a given night.

So if we take care of Villanova, Providence, Depaul, St. Johns that gives us 8 wins. Split with Marquette (9) Split with UConn and WVU (10) Get a Road game USF (11) and beat Louisville at home (12) and beat Seton Hall at home (should be a great game) (13) I can see a way to win 13 games. I can see losses to Syracuse, Rutgers on the road, Marquette on the road, and at UConn or WVU and this team could be 13-5 in league play and I think a top 3 finish. I could conceive of losses at UConn and WVU though.

The Cats need to hold homecourt and make 5th/3rd a place teams dread to play. If the Bearcats can score a huge upset over Syracuse it would be big for this program. The Cats have got to understand this could be a special season if they come to play with purpose every single game.

Lets not get crazy, every team in the Big East has proven they can beat anyone else sans Syracuse.

ps. I'm back and better than ever

I really like this team and I don't think they'll have another letdown like that St Johns game...

The Big East really is up for grabs this year. I think Syracuse is very beatable

I have only seen Syracuse play a couple times this year but I can't agree with this statement. They have been dominant in the games I have seen and really seem to be the class of the league this year. I don't think they will go 18-0 in the league, so yes they are "beatable" but I think you need to catch them on an off night while you are having a good one.

I will be extremely happy if the Cats get to 12-6 in the league. I think this is a realitistic expectation, I cannot necessarily point out the specific ones they win or lose but keep winning 2 out of 3 and you'll get to 12-6. With the way the conference is going 12-6 could very well mean a double bye at MSG.

Completely agree. 12-6 would be awesome and 11-7 would be good enough to get them dancing. 10-8 would put them on the bubble. Don't think 9-9 makes it this year for a Big East team, but alot of that depends on how many teams finish above 9-9 and what other conferences are doing. I think 11 or 12 wins is very doable, but they have to come to play every game. I hate to say it but I fully expect at least two ugly performances like we saw vs. St. Johns last week. The "new" offense is great and all, but relying on making jump shots and this team means we'll have some bad shooting nights. We need to bring the effort and the D every game and we'll still have a shot to win on those cold shooting nights.
