Lots of different variables at play but I think he will bring ND to another level.... He is what charlie was was not.... a great Head Coach... Charlie could recruit and call the offense but was not able to put the whole package together.... Hate to see him leave UC but I think he has set the bar high for the football program.... best of luck to him at ND

I think he's a winner, so I'm guessing he would do the same, even at ND. LOL
ND is a tough place to win at, so time will tell. It's a shame, cause he had things rolling in Clifton. Damn, it's one sad day, espec for the UC players and recruits.

As someone that has followed Cincinnati football & basketball for years I can tell you Kelly wasn't the only one to build the football program. Trust me it's been a long process and many more people than JUST Brian Kelly has a hand in where they are now. Tim Murphy slowly started turning the program around and after some moderate success he left for Harvard, then Rick Minter took over and built on what Murphy started. Minter was the one that almost ruined tOSU national championship season in 2002.

With the move to the BEAST the Cincinnati officials felt they needed to move in a different direction at the head coaching position so they hired Mark Dantonio. Kelly was the benefactor of Mark Dantonio's Defense for his first couple seasons.

Kelly was also helped tremendously with recruiting in the Cincinnati area by hiring Kerry Combs in his first week on the job. Ever hear Kelly talk about how great the High school football was in Ohio and Cincinnati needed to start landing those kids instead of letting them get away to the SEC and Big 10 schools. Kerry Combs was the one helping Kelly to land those kids.

When you talk about UC football you can't forget about former AD Bob Goins either. He was the one credited for the move to the BEAST. Everybody already knew UC basketball back then, it was widely recognized that the move to the BEAST was to elevate the football program.

Yes, Kelly is a good coach (make some questionable decisions during games sometimes that will leave you scratching your head though) but in all honesty it gets a little old when all the media wants to talk about how Brian Kelly built the program from nothing..........maybe so in the eyes of the bandwagon fans but the true fans know differently!

Anyone besides me find it a little ironic ND fired one offensive genius so they could hire another? Get rid of something so you can replace it with the exact same thing.............Brilliant and some wonder why Notre Dame hasn't been relevant for 20 years

Kelly's best defense at Cincinnati was one that Mark Dantonio left him. This year all he wanted to do was score more times then his opponent. He didn't care how many points he gave up doing it. I read a couple weeks ago how Notre Dame wanted a defensive minded guy because they lost so many games this year when they scored 30+ points. Congratulations Notre Dame you hired what you already had and we know Weis didn't leave him any Defense.

Not to mention with Clausen leaving for the NFL he has exactly 0 healthy QB's on scholarship. When it's all said and done his dream job may not be the dream he thought it was.

I agree that BK built upon what Dantonio started. I did like the fact the UC defense swarmed to the ball carrier, and you have to give some credit to BK and Co. for that. As far as ND is concerned, their offense should be ok next year, but the big question mark will be how the defense performs. It's been subpar for years. Time will tell.

I think he'll do exactly at ND what he did at UC.....but at ND, 12-0 will get you into the national title game.

It's definitely going to be harder to duplicate what he did here at UC but I believe he's the perfect fit! and he will have success but it will take time!
